Guess that means I'd stick with queuing with my friend(s) whenever at least one of them is online to avoid shit queues until I level up Dragoon enough to then go around and play catchup on other classes. I'd rather not play a midge nor some flavour of furry/scalie, so good ol' human it is.

Friend actually showed me 1st Coil of Bahamut on stream while he was doing it on sync with randoms. I'll ask him about 2nd and final coil, but Twintania didn't look that bad.

Think after Dragoon I'd try Paladin, Warrior, or Dark Knight. Considering it's my first hotbar MMO I'll likely be saving everyone from the floor half the time for a fair while.
In EU, Light has much better queues (you can still make your character on Chaos and just data centre travel to Light without downsides, plus an upcoming update is going to enable cross-server play so it doesn't really matter where you are anyway). Even as a DPS, if you're on Light, you can usually get decent queue times any time from the daily reward reset (3pm UTC or currently 4pm BST) to around 6pm as enough people log on just to run random content for daily rewards that you'll usually get a quick party for any mandatory story content.

Regarding catching up on levelling, you get a higher exp bonus based on how high your max class is, so it's faster to level one job to 100 then do all the rest afterwards. But if you just want one extra job, the main story gives you more than enough exp, so you shouldn't need much grinding if you just want to grab a healer or tank job to keep up with your main. If memory serves, you can get multiple jobs almost immediately, around level 10, although you'll have to unlock all 3 starting cities before you get access to all the jobs (Dragoon will start you off in Gridania, but you need to go to Ul'Dah to get Paladin, Limsa to get Warrior, and the first expac city to get Dark Knight).

New players avoid healers/tanks because of the greater responsibility in dungeons, but they're dead simple and very formulaic to play across all classes so learn one and you'll learn the rest quickly. As they level and get new abilities, DPS, particularly melees like Dragoon, get a bit more complex to play well just because of how many buttons you need to time, while healers/tanks get more healing/damage mitigating resources so they paradoxically get easier to play as they get to level 100.

I can always tell who the true and honest men are if they are just playing as a normal ass human. Except Shenpai. Fuck that stupid autistic cunt and her stupid OC.
I probably should've mentioned I'm a Britbong
How unfortunate for you. You better watch out with saying naughty words to other players or the bobbies'll be knocking on your door ready to toss you into the gulag.

In all seriousness though, you won't have to worry overmuch about queues since everything is getting merged together anyway so it doesn't really matter where you set down roots.

Also, side tangent, who actually cares about "World First" in UMAD? It literally does not matter, none of the devs recognize anything remotely close to a world first and the static that does actually complete the content first will just cheat anyway.
There will be another shit storm that happens about cheating and then Yoshi will inevitably come out, say that he's not making ultimates anymore and collectively piss off all the hyper autistic 1%ers who play this fucking game, causing them to have colossal chimpouts on twitter and maybe quitting the game altogether.
....actually that sounds pretty funny. Please let it happen, it would be so fucking funny.
At this point most people are just watching it for the memes and drama and thirsting over wanting to fuck Kefka (not joking about that last one.)

I was always under the impression that "World First" was something official that SE acknowledged. If they dont and this is a community thing then it puts the whole "planning to take days off from work to do play video games" to a whole new level.

They did until the TEA cheating drama, and TOP was the nail in the coffin with a group having a clip leaked showing the use of Splatoon and unlimited zoom out. So people are basically trying to make an unofficial cheat-free World First race in order to get back into Square's good graces, as far as I understand.

FF14 RWF for Ultimates have nowhere near the same appeal as the real thing. In WoW, the new normal and heroic raid are out two weeks before the Mythic version. Every current WoW players will have played the raid and have done the bosses themselves, so when people watch the Mythic stream they will understand most of what is going on in the fight having done it themselves. The fight is also only two weeks old and so the novelty has not worn off yet.

FF14 Ultimates are mechanically brand new fights, but there is no easy mode available and most people will have no reference for what is going on if they tune in. Aesthetically, almost all of the boss models and music is reused from what people already saw before several years ago, so there is no novelty here aside from the last boss form and track. And that's not getting into the fundamental issues with WoW vs FF14 gameplay. WoW is simply more interesting to look at with the warlock demonic gateways, adds, etc.

Square has added the ability to play through most mandatory content with a party of AI, but they're pretty dogshit on purpose so that they aren't faster than playing with actual humans, so that is always something you can use if your friends aren't available too.
I like doing my first run of a dungeon with the NPCs. Pretty often dungeons have lore items like journals etc, and you can't really stop to read them if you are playing with other players. Also in some dungeons NPC banter can be pretty amusing.

I'd argue that the easy mode would be the savages/normal modes of these fights. Some mechanics overlap but are expanded upon so sure, the average person might not know what's happening, but if you're aware of the easiest version of these fights, you get an idea of where some of these mechanics come from.

I think the point is more that the Ultimate (2026) is from a savage/normal fight from 2018 - nearly a decade ago. It would be much fresher in people's minds if it was tied to the current raid series where players had just more recently done them.

It's a cool idea to use specific bosses for Ultimates but it might even be better to have them be simply entirely new bosses instead of referencing things a lot of players did not or don't bother with.

Finished 7.4 just felt like a big apology from the developers
"Guys, look, we gave Krile something more than one god damn zone of story, and there's not even troon cat in it!!"

finished the post patches
It felt like the adults found a shitty kids' painting and tried desperately to save it, and they kind of did
One disappointment I have is the final boss for all of dt is some random void sent that bears nothing on the story just a waste of a slot
My review
base dt: 5/10
I expected lucid dog shit and got a pretty mediocre story, which ironically made me not hate it as much
dt post patches: 7.5 / 10
who know that having a good villain with clear motives makes a better story?

Took a quick break from leveling Dancer to finally unlock Dragoon.

With that, Strong Lance Arm III, Tales of War, and Greatest Tales Ever Told are done

What's the best way to level <60 level jobs now? Back in the day I used to just spam PotD until level 60, but PotD has like 30 minute queue times now.
Spamming the highest level dungeon you can run is always a good idea for fast leveling. Just make sure to avoid lvl 50 dungeons cause they are not meant for leveling. To mix things up, I suggest doing daily roulettes, maybe some PVP if you are interested in getting some PVP-only glams or want to grind the season rank. Oh, and another small source of EXP and Centurion Seals is doing the Heavensward monster bounties while you are stuck in queue. It ain't much, but it can add up to maybe 10 percent of your EXP bar per day? The EXP scaling for older expansions is a bit wonky, so I am not quite sure about that part.

Beast Tribes can get you some EXP too if you don't mind the tedious tasks you have to do for the ARR and Heavensward ones. Hm, we do get spoiled with leveling opportunities starting with level 71, Pixies and Bozja are both pretty great EXP dispensers.

Make sure to do your daily frontlines roulette run, the EXP you get is worth doing just the one match.

if you have your Squadron set up at your Grand Company, that's a good way to level DPS because they're way stronger than duty support. If you don't, it's not really worth going out of your way to set them up just for this.

Saw that the free trial is a permanent thing until you pay up, so I decided to take the plunge early. Gotta say, levelling is really damn fast on a new character, or at least as fast as it takes me to waddle my arse over from MSQ to MSQ. Gear progression is also really fast. I can see that dragoon gets quite involved later on in terms of combos, I assume this is why people put money into those MMO mice?

At level 15 now, gonna be a little sparse on playing in the mean time due to work but eventually I'll look at doing dungeons with my buddy once those unlock.

Other than that, I'm having fun.

Glad you are liking it. Free trial seems like a great way to experience the game mostly stressfree since you don't have the sub hanging over your head. Jumped back into the game with the free trial myself just to scratch the itch.

Newer hardware and the graphics certainly do make those earlier areas look pretty sharp. Barely done any MSQ either as I've been just wandering around and cleaning out every exclamation mark on the map, unlocks or no. It will forever irk me how they got rid of the exploration and open world-lite nature of ARR in favor of more linear zone progression.

Speaking of fun, gotta say if there's one thing I would have to say positively about Dawntrail, it's that Viper is fun as hell. Don't really care for Monk, so having an alternate job that has that high amount of button hits per second is very nice. Also if the rumor of Viper and Picto being the prototypes of Evolved mode jobs, then I might have some hope for the system when it comes out. My biggest worry is how jobs that are stuck between two systems will be changed (Samurai with stickers and Kenki, Ninjas with Mudras and Ninjutsu.)
