I'm a bit of a sucker for a good movie intro. I don't really care whether it's artistic or crass if it's well made I will generally sit through the rest just based on a good first impression.

I'll give a handful of ones I can think of off the top of my head to start off, hopefully others can share their favourites.

Dead or Alive (1999) [nsfw?]

Lord of War (2005)

Blue Velvet (1986)

Never seen it. I heard the intro was the best thing about it, but I'll have to check it out. Actually I don't think I've seen any of Noe's films all the way through.

Haha, I'd agree. Enter the Void is a great watch almost purely for aesthetic (IMO at least - the characters were kind of insufferable). Irreversible isn't so bad, I can't exactly imagine watching it in a social context -- I like Harmony Korine a bit better for group watching.

Oh man I really should get around to watching Star Wars.

Say what you will about the entire rest of the film itself, but these are some of the best opening credits ive ever seen.

Oh the opening to the movie Flashdance. :heart-full: So juxtaposed, so rhythmic, so 80s, so surprising. I can't even post a video of it because the only video I see on Youtube is a truncated version, and that ruins it! :heart-empty:

Then there's also the opening sequence to Streets of Fire

Watch the whole movie in the dark, I promise you'll see colors that you never even saw before.

Hmm. Probably one of the most haunting openings that still sticks to my mind is the first Jurassic Park.

If you're looking for a catchy opening song for a pretty cheesy movie, The Blob is the winner. Try and get this earworm out of your head for the next few hours.

I have no idea if this counts as it's an anime (but still technically a movie), but I really admire the opening to Paprika. Straight to some intense mindfuckery at the very beginning, yet the animation is pretty damn gorgeous as usual from the studio.
