What do you guys like archaeology wise? I enjoy the pre-Columbian antics of Peru myself.

I'm just a big fan of non-western religions lost in time. What about y'all?

I think the remnants of settlements from the Iron age in places like Germany and France are real interesting. Scandinavia and Ireland too. The people that lived in those places are fascinating. I also quite like impressionable stone columns and temples that the Romans left. You can never go wrong with those.

Ancient Japan is fascinating. They had a well excelled society, likely due to the hermitage nature of the islands.

Don't people post the opposite of that with medieval European and Japanese art, with Japanese art the better example? Or is that the joke?
Everything is shitty when you cherry pick examples.

Back on topic, I've always been fascinated by ancient European and near-eastern civilizations. Somewhere in there is the foundations of modern western culture.

Yeah, I thought that was it, pardon my autism.

Ancient Egypt has always been a favorite of mine.

I'm also interested in the Paracas culture. It's a 2000 year old/dead culture from Peru. Apparently the indie game Yume Nikki bases its weird Meso-American artwork off of Paracas motifs.

Minoans (2000BC - 1450BC) of Crete. They had plumbing, unusually high gender equality for the time, were apparently peaceful, had a maritime empire of commerce instead of military conquest, and may have inspired the myths of Atlantis. They even did art for art's sake, apparently, and not just for religious or ceremonial purposes. Sadly, a combination of Mycenean invasions from mainland Greece and a volcanic eruption did them in.
