💰 GrifterExtra Credits - leftie gaming channel that had two of its members accused of "misconduct" in only 2 months
I think I heard of this one in a very irrelevant segment in History Channel's Humanity the Story of All of Us, where you can easily tell it was hamfisted in there.
Yeap. Though, he called it "game compulsion". Which seemed like hm just playing the semantics game to me. Dude just liked to play video games too much. He was adicted.
New Frame Plus is a series about video game animation, created by Daniel Floyd (professional animator and co-creator of Extra Credits). If you came here hopi...
I used to watch EC too. Looking back, I should have gotten suspicious when they did that "how do we get more girls into gaming" video and asked Leigh Alexander her opinions, but I was young.
I still love a lot of the optimism they have in certain videos. "Fail faster" is one of my favorites, that's what made me like their videos in the first place. It's the political agenda, and James questionable behaviour what sets them back IMO. For example that video they made the other day defending corportations for overpricing their games.
I've also heard many people saying how James isn't as qualified to give advice to game developers as he thinks.

A genuine series lighting the tumbling ride that can be game development would be good to shed light on it and stop idiots from thinking stupid shit like "game developers need unions" and whatever else plebbits oh-so-well-meaning socialists are up to. Game development is a calling, it's not a simple or easy career.
I know Star Citizen has a particularly bad rap among certain people, because Chris Roberts' time management skills are a legend to behold, but the Bugsmashers videos that they used to do are a fantastic window into what sort of shit real game development leads to and what sort of hoops you need to jump through to actually fix that. Even though it doesn't depict the hundred failed attempts and quickly graying hair when a persistent bug strikes, it shows the absolutely unorthodox and frankly dumb ways things need to be fixed with sometimes. I also like that in the first few videos you can really see that the guy is clearly a long term game programmer, he's absolutely awkward in front of camera even if he's a bit of a name in the industry.
I wouldn't let James mop the floors in any game studio i know people from. He'd be like that intern janitor who persistently bugs developers with his great and insightful ideas because he has played Minecraft sometime.
James never had any real success in actually making games, but as they say, don't let being a failure stop you from telling everyone else that you know things ought to be done. Although the right isn't immune from such things, that particular diseased thinking seems to go hand-in-hand with leftist ideology.

Oh boy I can't wait to see the next episode of Extra History about the legendary King Ubuntu and how he used his army armed with nothing but bamboo sticks and elephant horns to hide their crotches to defeat the notorious Shakey Cannibal tribe.
Literally not one that i can find. He claims he has worked on anything between Farmville and Call of Duty, but there are no games that he has directly worked with that i've ever seen proof or even his name on. I've been on his case for years because he bugs me to no end.
He does regardless title himself flippantly between Game Designer and Game Developer whenever any con is idiotic enough to offer him a speaking role... which quickly turn into cringefests of unfathomable magnitude. Just remember, he hears what he hears, totally not his fault!

I suggest that to an undefined extent, what we choose to remember says more about us than the people we remember. Of course this is equally true for all "Legends."
Not just that, I remember them being pretty butt kissing with Genghis Khan despite him leading a force that killed like a tenth of the people on the planet. At least when Overly Sarcastic Productions looked at Genghis, they were willing to acknowledge the sheer unrelenting brutality of the guy.

They sucked Khosrau's dick too. It partly comes with the territory of discussing historical figures in charge of armies, but then they don't really glamorize Nobunaga's slaughtering of the monks at Mt. Hiei and try to apologize for brown people enslaving each other or Europeans.

Not as bad as Crash Course. They praise the Song Dynasty and Persian Caliphates but ignore that Genghis literally destroyed these places. Genghis had the cisterns and canals that made Persia prosperous buried and the Ming Dynasty never tried to to emulate the market oriented ideas of the Song.
i have always hated EC, i have always hated their white nasally voices, i have always hated the stupid ass little groups & charities they promote every other video, i hate all these little cartoons they draw in order to talk about serious issues, such as harassment, or racism, or misogyny, which they don't understand bc they dont actually give a shit. that screenshot of all the sad little cartoons about the christchurch attack is exactly what im fucking talking about lmao. i absolutely fucking hate these performative liberal worms who constantly insinuate their voices into any tragedy like they're not just putting on a sob show for clicks or have anything useful to fucking say about it. i cant find the autism emoji so im just going to post this one
Call of Juarez: The Cartel is an unfortunate example of what happens when designers don't question their cultural assumptions and allow hurtful misinformatio...
I remember getting that little badge thing on the escapist for having watched the first series, but honestly cannot remember a single thing they said.
Maybe a way to improve their content would be playing videogames. Or just not posting.
Their history things seem to be going to more obscure people who just so happen to tick the boxes of diversity. I don't know why everyone who has covered the Prostitute pirate has seen it as empowering.
It's funny you say that as I'm pretty sure some game devs think being an idea guy is pretty much useless unless you actually have some experience and success behind your back (or at least this game dev):
You said “Being the idea person” isn’t an option. What about being able to lay out the full planning for a game with that idea (even if just on paper) from A to Z, including how the story develops,...
How do you pitch a game to a game studio? How likely is it that your game pitch will be made? That entirely depends on whether you’re willing to put up the money to get the game made. You generally...

I think even they said being "ideaguy" isn't feasible. It makes you wonder what was James job before Extra Credits. Or did game companies actually hired him as a "consultant"?
I've always found that suspicious. I mean I could buy a big name like Kojima being hired as a "consultant", but James doesn't seem to have that prestige at all.

"Idea guys" do actually exist in game development, but they're not just someone who just thinks up game mechanics and what would be "cool". They're usually people who can produce a rough concept game around their ideas and pitch it to teams, publishers, project leads, et.c. for enough funding/manpower to actually properly make what they want to make. A surprising amount of these people just don't stop at that though. There's some absurdly scaled one-man-projects out there.
There's a significant difference to just brainstorming a game concept that would work to actually putting in the work of building that shit up and getting it to a playable state. I don't much have any knowledge of book writing, but it's about the same deal as a book draft.
Molyneux actually started out this way, though given his track record he's probably not the greatest example...
