It's very simple and IDK why his motivations have to be re explained every other page. Hasan and his orbit went crazy on Ethan after the Leftovers breakup. This culminated in real human skulls being sent to his home and CPS being called on his children over telling an offhand "my kids be shitting" hypochondriac story. The path to taking legal action against Hasan's orbit for this harassment/defamation is much harder (especially as a public figure).

But, in his infinite Jewish wisdom, he saw an easier path to lawfare: United States copyright law. He hyped up the "Hasan nuke", knowing some of Hasan's orbit would watch it live, immediately, in full, maliciously, and with limited commentary. He registered it ahead of time under his company (possibly avoiding involving himself as a person), and they took the bait. The Girlies and h3 snark even helpfully posted direct links and said things like, "watch this instead of giving views to h3's video."

So no, he is not insane. He deliberately made this video as a black hole of gravity to pull in some of Hasan's heaviest moons. This lawsuit is his intended end goal as legal revenge for 18 months of harassment that started to involve his children. He has a copyright expert lawyer that he won the Hoss "quintessential fair use" lawsuit with. Ethan is going to legally air his enemies' dirty laundry and legally garnish their earnings for life if he can. IMO this is the sanest he has been in the last five years.

Personally, I'd just go for the default judgment. She's been willfully attempting to evade service to an egregious extent despite the fact that it was public knowledge that Ethan was suing her, so I don't think a challenge would hold up. I guess the one upside is that by allowing her to actually litigate the case, she'll be forced to spend her donation money on her attorney instead of on a warehouse full of halal twinkies and oreos.

He is a real lawyer who went to a real law school and then did some legitimate practice before leaving and doing things he actually wanted to do. I don’t think he’s a subject matter expert and it sounds like what he mostly did in his professional career was immigration law. But without knowing anything more about him, I don’t feel like he’s that objectionable. On the spectrum of YouTube lawyers, he’s not even close to the worst.

To me he reads as a guy whose parents, uncles, cousins etc. sent him through law school to continue the family tradition of chain migration and sweatshop labor. That being said he seems like he's capable of having some ok legal takes, that's not an endorsement of his qualifications it's just an acknowledgement of the fact that being qualified to give legal opinions on youtube (or just generally explaining the law to people without any legal background) is not an especially high bar.
