They fucked with and harassed his family and bragged about it openly. Kiwi Farms does not do this. They cannot be sued for this as a result. If you were able to just subpoena anyone for any reason then someone would have done that in the preceding ten years this site has been available.

Klein is well within his legal rights to seek damages and sue the people responsible for facilitating that harassment. He is seeking compensation for damage against him, which is a lawful remedy with hundreds of years of case law backing it. If that somehow sets some precedent that anyone can subpoena anyone for any reason then I wouldn't know what to say because we'd be in full 2+2=5 world at that point.

Thread tourist here, why is it that Reddit can hand out info with a subpoena while Quasi, best known for having Patrick S Tomlinson pay him, is someone who didn't have to give out any info at all? Better lawyer? Different venue? Or does Reddit really not know that much beyond an email address since jannies do it for free and aren't paid by Reddit?

Keep in mind that the subpoena hasn't been answered yet, Klein just got approval from the court to subpoena reddit.

In Quasi's case, Patrick's lawyers were literally retarded and had no defense (at one point the judge said "I don't see how this isn't free speech.") It is not illegal to make fun of people online. We have to separate Ethan’s motives and Ethan’s legal rights. His motive is to destroy his enemies, drive them before him, and hear the lamentations of their women. His legal rights are different. And by infringing his copyright his enemies handed him the weapon.

The case is about copyright infringement. Ethan is arguing that the jannies actively promoted the streams that infringed his copyright, and thus are liable for it too. That’s it. The jannies could otherwise have been Ethan’s biggest fans and the judge would still have granted it.
