Far as I can tell, the tweet was in reaction to this piece of news.

It happened back in February and there's an article from May (or October, I don't know whether it's using US or European date formatting) but it's now circulating again for whatever reason. Either the language barrier slows down the travel of news that much or it's just recycling the headline, which does happen.

People might dislike Elon for his politics, his previous scams, exaggerations, etcetera. His fellating of solar energy is what personally gets me MATI, especially since he hasn't done anything R&D-wise to advance the technology, which'd at least be neat, but he hasn't put his money where his mouth is on the subject. If he comes out with some sort of gizmo that somehow routes down energy from sunlight collected in orbit to the surface (kind of like some super advanced wireless phone charger), that'd be pretty neat. But for the time being his fellating of solar appears performative and largely without point. Maybe he's hoping this'll turn into him getting his solar subsidies or something.

We have clean and near infinite energy readily available right now in the form of modern nuclear fission with Gen IV standards. Fast breeder reactors decrease fuel requirements by a factor of nearly 100 to 1000 with technology that we have available to us now. Not 50 years in the future. Not 100 years in the future. Now.

Modern FBR designs (which can absolutely be adopted for commercial energy production) produce more fissile material then they consume.

America has never built one. The problem with nuclear energy has never been cost, or safety, or technology. It's always been the mismanagement of resources.

America operates on the grift economy. The only way something will ever be done is if someone is getting kickbacks from it. Elon probably knows something about that.
