BYD is the world leader in EVs, by far. And their main competitor isn't even Tesla, it's another Chinese EV maker.

And now that sales worldwide are collapsing, Tesla has to hope that it can hold on to a respectable level of sales inside the US. But even that isn't likely. The only thing going for Tesla are subsidies and protectionism.

They just want a "western" high profile brand car locally manufactured for their inner party chums. It's a luxury good like beamers and mercs to them is my suspicion, they might also want to rip off some of the more advanced features, the whole autonomous driving thing is certainly useful.
They are produced like cheap trash, but in theory, highly advanced cars, no matter how stupid you find the whole concept.

If you look at the amount of actual violent rhetoric towards Elon Musk specifically and how he effectively does nothing to try and decrease it (at least Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates and Zuckerberg gave tons of money to charity and other shit and for the most part keep a fairly lowish profile) I wouldn't be surprised if something bad happens to him. Literally every single social media platform I open has open calls for violence against him in one way or another at an unprecedented scale.

And it won't be an "American agency or asset" because at this point he has thousands or maybe even millions of people who are openly fedposting about his fate every single day. He's doing nothing to stem the tide either and keeps pushing buttons.
