Trump didn’t know what he got himself into by sidling up to Musk. He assumed Musk would be another Sheldon Adelson who would give Trump and the Republicans a bunch of money, demand he have a direct line of access to Trump that he uses sparingly, and then fuck off. Musk is too autistic to reel it in but he’s worth over $400 billion and has lots of sway in various industries.

I guess this is where my inner pinko emerges and says nobody should be worth $400 billion to begin with and the “benevolent billionaire” myth is a crock of shit. These people can’t help themselves and that’s why society is better off without them.

I'd argue he knew, since in his first term Trump had some science and innovation committee or some shit. Musk lasted on it for a month. Word had it Musk proved his true retarded power level quite quick and clear when put in a company of people who actually know shit.
I imagine Trump and the rest used Musk for election clout, maybe they hoped he'd play ball like a good boy, but Musk being autistic, he wants to crowd the ball all on his own and there is no chance Trump will allow that.

I'm glad you brought that up, because I don't like the term "legacy media" or "mainstream media" (Joe Rogan is mainstream now, gets way more views than MSNBC slop). I just call it "corporate media," aka overproduced hypnotic slop propaganda (FOX, CNN, MSNBC etc)

I wouldn't even say it has to be about arguing. I'd just be interested to see the basis for the EDS, and it feels like an "A&N" section would be a place to post relevant "A&N" by people that to some degree are clearly concerned about his influence on the body politic.

I think the guy's an autist with questionable practices regarding the woman he sexes and how he may deal with having a dozen kids that he clearly doesnt have time for, and I think his cars are shit (though cybertrucks look rad) and will never be on board with driving something that can be bricked or driven off a cliff by a guy at a desk 1000 miles away, I guess I just see 1000x more humor in the way he makes people seethe, and the types of people he generally makes seethe. Like, gimme something to grab onto here. "Excentric billionaire fucks BPD whores" just seems mundane, and given his political/economic/industrial/cultural influence, gimme something to be actually concerned about than what I mentioned above, because at the moment he's a net positive as far as I can tell. If I'm to consider the technologies he's involved in to generally be an inevitability, I'd rather his influence than the rest of globohomo. Pretty much all I see, whether it's from sources in A&N or outside KF, seems to be little more than TDS-by-proxy.

Eta: tbf, I'm super thread-touristing here obviously, maybe there's worthwhile shit buried in the thread, but as I don't really get the "lolcow" angle, I don't feel like wading through a ton of mundane shit and salt to find something relevant. That's why it's nice when people post "articles and news" in a subforum where I can scroll down the headlines and pick what i find interesting or relevant.

It's pretty simple IMO. ~90% of Musk's wealth is pure, unhinged investor speculation. He is not a genius engineer but he understands the fundamental fact that modern markets have become completely decoupled from reality. The attention economy > the real economy. Low information investors are reading the news and assume that good news for you = good news for your company, which will somehow translate that into money, maybe. His networth on paper has almost doubled since Trump was elected despite that changing literally nothing for Tesla at this moment. Trump hasn't even announced anything he might do that might benefit Tesla specifically. It's all pure speculation. Toyota sells far more cars than Tesla yet has like 1/8th the market cap. Tesla stock has the same fundamentals as a pumped shitcoin which is probably why he thinks the Doge meme is so funny. He'll be able to take massive loans at low interest rates out against this fake wealth which then turns it into real wealth.

It's not even really his control of twitter that was important but the way he uses it to remain in the news and the way he can use it to attempt to spin without the media as an interlocutor. But the media still sucks his cock most of the time so idk how relevant that aspect even is. He made a modest gamble on buying an election for Trump and now he's in the news literally every single day and his networth is skyrocketing. But who knows how long it will last.

I think back to Alan Greenspan’s statement in 1996 about irrational exuberance and now we have a company worth over a trillion in a market cap based purely on irrational exuberance. Musk’s goal is to keep the bubble as inflated as possible as long as possible but also to have friends in the right places because if Tesla pops, that’s going to fuck over a lot of investors.
