Nah, not as comparable because despite being furries, the actions of Christ, his disciples, and the Jews and Romans (and even Satan) would still be the same, and you can still get the same emotions and messages out. Look at VeggieTales as a good example of anthropomorphic Bible characters still housing the same spirit without compromising the lesson (remember, King George and the Ducky had to get creative due to the biblical subject matter of the deadly sin of abusing power for lust and murder).
The degrading bastardization was going to happen regardless just because it's a very old Greek epic that's been through too many different lens of interpretation that nobody except the most dedicated of scholars fully understand it. And even with that knowledge being widely available, TPTB dictate which versions they want to promote to the rest of the masses and hide everything else. These people don't care to teach actual life lessons or to tell a unique spin of the inspiring tale of heroism and commitment while staying true to the spirit of the epic, they only care about The Message™, revisionist history, and demoralizing white men.
This trailer looks like some kind of low budget crap, not something that was made by a famous Hollywood director and has a budget of $250 million. And somehow, Ellen still manages to be one of the worst things about this trailer despite only showing up for a few seconds. What an achievement.
The Greek movie Iphigenia (1977) was made nearly 50 years ago and filmed on a low budget even for its time. Yet, it looks much better than Nolan's polished $250 million turd. It also has no pooners in it.
Actually, I'll take it one step further. Hercules, the 1997 animated movie, looks better and is more faithful to Greek mythology than the Odyssey (2026). Even if the movie radically differs from the original myth in many aspects and even features a gospel girl group (which is awesome), there at least aren't any pooners in it.
It's a spectacularly inept trailer though. Lots of short clips of people turning their head in a direction in silence, walking forward two steps, putting a helmet on etc... Looks like it was made with discarded rushes because the director is refusing to share the good stuff. Makes it look like a film in which nothing happens. And Telemachus saying "My dad is coming home"... really?
I'm not saying the film will be good - I'm just saying it's unlikely to be as bad as this trailer suggests.

Of everything I'm honestly most surprised by how bad damon sounds, he's so flat and phoned in. Matt Damon's far from some acting gaint but he usually has presence and energy, here he looks like he got dragged out of bed. Dood page is of course going to bad, she's a mutilated psycho hopes up on pain meds, but I expect matt damon to be.... well at least not this bad.
