Our government's best attribute is that it is a lumber bureaucracy and the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches are often at odds and cockblocking each other. A smoothly functioning federal government would pass so many retarded laws and regulations that we would end up like Europe in no time. Their self-imposed impotency is the common man's greatest ally.

I don't think I agree, I'd rather have a government function properly such that if you pass a law and it doesn't work out you can just revoke it.
I don't think the idea of checks and balances was to intentionally make the inner machinery of the governmental diet unable to function properly, but rather to keep any one element from accruing too much power (which it arguably failed to do anyway.)
