Electroplankton is a music game for the Nintendo DS that was made in conjunction with Japanese interactive media artist Toshio Iwai. It was originally released for the DS and the plankton were later released individually as DSiware. It features 10 different plankton that can be used to create music in a variety of different ways.

Here is a link to a livestream I made using Electroplankton. Feel free to use it as background music.

Here are some other Electroplankton videos from a channel called AA Battery, which appears to have a number of Electroplankton videos.

I'd like to note that he managed to do a decent job with the Rec-Rec (fish-shaped plankton), which I found difficult to use.

What are your thoughts? Do you have a favorite plankton? Are there any with visuals you particularly liked? Are there any other Electroplankton artists you know of? If you watched any of my stream, were there any parts you liked or disliked?

Discuss.

This feels haunted but in a 'man transcends the bounds of a certain reality' kind of way.
I love the inclusion of the live stream since it gives me a good sense of what the music is. But it makes me feel like I'm in some very surreal places like an underwater church, a dying computer or a corrupted 8-bit game.

Never played the game but I remember the electroplankton stage in smash bros.
It's remarkable how obscure it is despite representation in Smash. I have a gamer friend who didn't even realize what it was. I think he may have said he thought it was Pictochat or something, but I may be misremembering. I guess a level isn't as obvious, as say Pit in Brawl.

Well I'll tell you what, you just made me pull my 3DS out of storage and get a cheap R4 off Amazon to check this out now. The music is amazing for coming from the DS hardware, and this is a very unique program that i've never heard about before. I absolutely can't wait to check it out now, and your livestream of it's very hypnotic and great background stuff.

Really glad you decided to make this thread after all.

I find a lot of the electroplankton sounds and effects real soothing and just good to listen to after a long day. It was pretty fun to listen to while playing around with the features. Pretty glad that someone's utilizing what it had on offer.

I'm glad people like it. The general consensus has been positive from the people I've talked to as well. There are sections that I think "haunting" describes pretty well, but there are also sections, particularly the Beatnes (5 long, chiptune plankton) that are more upbeat.

Should I upload short recordings as video/shorts to my channel?
