Charlie Brooker may be most known today for doing Black Mirror, but back in the day he did lots of his own 'wipe' shows like screenwipe, newswipe, weekly & yearly wipe as well as other similar stuff about TV & the business of TV.

Anyone remember seeing these? I used to love them when they were first broadcast many, many years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59OJ17raqWw

Why does OP's link have an IP address in it

I remember enjoying Newswipe but I'm sure if I went to back to watch it it would be the BBC's usual leftist propaganda and I was just too young to understand it back then.

are you using the good name of Messr. Brooker
and invoking the fond memory of his earlier works…
to merely honeypot us rubes?

I think "How TV Ruined Your Life" was the point where he started going downhill. Because it was all just recycled content from the Wipe shows. Even though the particulars of what he was talking about (2000s British politics, cable news) aren't all that relevant these days, the Wipe shows still did a fantastic job of breaking down how the media lies and manipulates and manufactures news stories. Which is really frustrating given Brooker's political views, he has such good insights into how the sausage is made and yet he still wants to eat the sausage.

Armando Iannucci is another guy like that, he has such a good understanding of the office politics side of politics and yet he still falls for the bullshit that politicians manufacture. Anyway, this might be my favorite Brooker segment:
I make fun of Brits sometimes, but there is a certain mix of profound and childish that only Britbongs seem to really be capable of.

I first heard of this guy through these bits hosted by Doug Stanhope:

I appreciated his old TV listings parody website TVGoHome, from which Nathan Barley sprang, in the repeat listings for a program called "Cunt", a "fly-on-the-wall" documentary series following around this example of an emerging "new media/hipster" person, where the episode descriptions range in tone from contemptuous to vitriolic.

There was a website that collected most of the Cunt listings but it's been gone for awhile now, but they were still pretty amusing to me, even though a lot of them are of the time and you can tell it was written in 1999 and the very, very early 2000s. I found some saved images of these listings.
