It really speaks to the character of these fuckwits when they bare their soul to the world and shit like this is the product.
Ragnar Tørnquist as a writer is a good example what's happened with western culture and all its cultural products. As others have mentioned, in 1999 The Longest Journey was delightful and imaginative. I haven't played it in almost 25 years, but I wouldn't be surprised if it holds up just fine, janky production values aside. Others have been less charitable here against Dreamfall from 2006, but I think he was still in control of his mental faculties and made a story that was coherent, inspired and focused.
In 2014 with Dreamfall Chapters, it was all over. Ragnar Tørnquist had become a deranged lunatic who couldn't leave twitter arguments alone and kept incorporating pointless distracting elements into the story to own the chuds. I was there playing each chapter as they came out, seeing how he interacted on twitter. He is not doing a parody of anything in those interviews, he really is that crazy. Before 2014 he was able to write stories with consistent characters and internal logic that built upon what came before across two games. He completely lost sight of that, because he bought a smartphone in the late 2000s and signed up to Facebook and Twitter just like everyone else. Then it was all over for his writing career. He was obsessed with Richard Spencer being punched and nazis literally rising and walking the streets OMG guys! Meanwhile people like me who loved Dreamfall got pissed because he wrote a piece of shit that retroactively destroyed our positive memories of the stories he wrote before. He lost the ability to write stories and became obsessed with writing propaganda. He's shouldering the white man's burden to civilize the masses.
Like he mentioned in those interviews, his writing feels like the product of someone who wakes up every day, imports the the latest mainstream media programming, and goes mad. He mentioned outright in those interviews that Dustborn is intended to be election interfering propaganda to sway the US public against Trump. Why on earth is a Norwegian man acting like this? I think he's a strong argument against teaching English in school. A language barrier might've saved him. In Metal Gear Solid 5 you encounter a virus that targets people who know a certain language, like say French. I think in game it's randomized which language the virus goes after. The point is, language exposes you to viruses, like US election propaganda. Many people seem to develop mental illnesses from these viruses, and this is a big problem threatening the whole of the English speaking world. Your only hope is to not understand English, as we see in cultures in Asia like Japan where bad ideas are much slower to spread because of the language comprehension gap.
