Do your dreams have any sort of continuity?

A friend was telling me the other day about this exact same thing. There was a dream he had where he w walked by a sushi place that he's never seen before and he recently had a dream where he recognized the same place and went inside. But personally, I'll get bouts of Deja Vu where specific situations are unfolding that I recognize from dreams I had before.

Does anyone else have any sort of continuity between their dreams?
I'm not necessarily asking if *all* of your dreams follow a singular story path- but do various characters, settings or plot reoccur in your dreams?

And moreover, does anyone else ever remember *previous* dreams while still in a dream?

I have a story involving hundreds of characters and dozens of nation states that has been going on for more than 2 decades.

I have a thing where I can hover. The process is always the same - in order to gain height or move in any direction, I have to concentrate, but once I'm in the air, I don't have to think about it so hard. I'm generally aware that being able to hover is not normal, but in the context of the dream, it doesn't defy the laws of physics. Sometimes I fuck with other people in the dream by hovering up the stairs or something without telling them that I can.

But what almost always happens is that when I discover I have the ability, I think, "Oh cool, I can do this in real life too - I thought I could only do it in dreams!" I seem to recall one occasion when I actually did wonder if that meant I was dreaming, but I invariably wake up as soon as I realise I'm dreaming.

I can always remember my dreams very vividly.

I like to believe that dreams are just manifestations of our subconscious trying to play out whatever it is we may be feeling. Like a person who is running away from their main problems in real life, suddenly having a dream of something obscure chasing them down a narrow hallway. Or someone who is tackling too much work in their lives, having a nightmare in which they are suffocating or drowning in murky waters.

Recurrence or continuity, specifically nightmares, occurs when you continually avoid that thing that you need to tackle in your real life. Continuity happens as a result of mild lucid dreaming, i.e when you gain enough control over the dream to be curious to go deeper into that rabbit hole. Maybe in this dream, instead of running from that masked stranger, you face him, pull him by the trenchcoat and ask him what's his name.

You may think that ignoring problems in life may erase it from your psyche, but it may very well exacerbate your acknowledgment of it. It also may be the very best way that your subconscious can find to make it's message clear since your dreams can't just flat-out talk to you.

One time I dreamed that I was riding a white tiger through a magical landscape filled with pastel trees, purple stone pillars, and aqua green springs and waterfalls. Another time I dreamed that I was hanging out with Kain from Legacy of Kain, Scooby Doo, and Dante from Devil May Cry, none of which I'd watched or played in years, and for some reason we were all in a mine looking for gold or something. Any meaning you take from your own dreams is just your waking brain trying to make sense from non-sense, IMO.

I have themes that are constant. One huge one is I'm back in HS and it's the first day.. but I'm the age I am now. Basically my school called me up and was like we decided you never graduated, so you have to do it all again (like that would ever happen). So I have to like sneak out of work to go to HS but it's a dream and I can't read my class schedule and can't remember what class im suppose to go to. That or I'm on the train, which I know by heart, but end up at a weird stop i've never been to and need to read the map, but can't and arrive at stranger and stranger stations.

I have two dream continuity things. The first is Calvin and Hobbes High Flying Summer. Calvin and Hobbes High Flying summer is a Calvin and Hobbes collection that's made up of scrapped Calvin and Hobbes Strips that were going to be used for the 1996 year. The thing about these strips is that they're all black and white and they somehow combine the art of Bill Watterson with the art of Frank Miller and Jeff Smith (Creator of the Bone Comic Book series). As such you get crazy things like Calvin and Hobbes getting chased by rat creatures and Calvin having a meeting with Marv, which are some of the "saner" versions I've seen of this bizarre comic.

The second bit of continuity I have is that I have three locations that have made frequent appearances in my dreams since I started recording them when I was eight. At least three times a week they appear:

An abandoned farm

An early twentieth century east coast city

The Railyard that appeared in the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends episodes Escape and Rusty to the Rescue.

Each of these areas has several smaller areas as well. For instance the City has a beach, baseball stadium, school and stores that have appeared in my dreams, the rail yard is located near a mountain range and amusement park as well as connects to the city and farm and the farm has areas that are similar to the summer camps I've been to .

Dreams are a very intricate and fascinating subject!
So little we do know about dreams..

I do have recurring nightmares of driving on a highway that's more like a roller coaster, and it's moving up and down like waves. Sometimes the road underneath my car will crumble away and I'll go plummeting in to water.

Dunno if it counts but I have recurring nightmares where I'm in some big house, it's always sunny outside, I have to go somewhere and I'm running late.

And I just can't get there. Corridors and staircases stretch on forever, doors don't open, or I just plain take the wrong way. Eventually where I must go becomes clear, and I race there... and I never make it in time because that's when my alarm goes off.

All my dreams are repeats from elementary school to around the beginning of highschool. Main themes are family, being abandoned by family at a school or camp, being in a competition and being close to winning, not being good enough, and being kidnapped. Of course school isn't really a big part of my life anymore so sometimes it takes place at work. And there is some sexual stuff. Since I'm older I react differently in the dream so sometimes it plays out different.

But there was this one dream that happened because I failed driving class:

I was going to turn left at the intersection and then I stopped in the middle because I panicked and miscalculated the speed of the car coming. The driving instructor said my name and then the car crashed into us.
