i don't think the makeup is supposed to always be appealing. drag makeup is offputting because it's exaggerations of female features. high arches, contoured cheeks, tiny noses, giant eyes, ect. i often consider it to be a humorous look on women. hence why their drag personas are usually catty, slutty, vain, ect. not very different from how they act out of drag tbh. as faggy as a lot of queens are, the majority them don't really want to be women. it's just a performance.
there are drag queens that don't go for the clown makeup, tho and look passable. fishy queens, for example are supposed to be passable. ironically, tumblr got their panties in a twist over the term fishy, because it makes fun of vaginal odors. lmfao
i think it's an art form, and the thing with art is that not everyone is gonna like it. i, personally, love crazy drag makeup. i think there's a certain skill to it. one of my favorite drag queens has the most hideous makeup, trixie mattel, but i get it. the personality is supposed to be like silicone barbie. she's a comedy queen.

I love drag queens and drag in general (including drag kings and the idea of bio/faux queens). It's definitely an art, and some are gonna resonate with you while others don't. The reason I support the idea of bio/faux queens is because I take a pretty open view of what drag is. I'd totally be down with bio/faux kings if they exist. Drag has come a long way, and there are a million different ways of interpreting it, so I'm all for seeing where it goes and what people do with it.
Lactatia concerns me, though. I don't think there's anything unusual in a kid exploring his identity and dabbling in new interests (that's just part of growing up), but I worry about him being exploited. For his own safety, I feel like Lactatia is something that should've remained private.

There is a thread on Lactatia here somewhere, or actually his/her parents, who put him in the spotlight as a drag queen before he knew what it was.
I adore Willam, have been watching him for years. I like Alaska Thunderfuck too although I get the vocal fry thing. I just find it funny on her, and she seems to be one of the last of the queens that doesn’t actually want to look like exactly a woman but does the exaggerated thing. Courtney Act looks like a female, she barely needs the drag makeup. A lot coming up do;Willam can pull it off at least on camera.
Willam is married, and you can see a photo of his husband on IG. I thought I’d seen all his videos but I hadn’t seen anywhere he talked about a bad childhood. He seems quite fond of his father. (He is ok with the usage of he rather than she, and since I watch a lot of the vids where he appears as a male I tend to think of him more as he.)
Non of them seem very interested in this bio trend although Willam has been respectful.

Honestly, despite not really being interested in drag, I have so close friends who are part of the community and it is exactly what you think it would be. A bunch of bitchy, surprisingly nice flamboyant men just trying to be fabulous

I don't hate them as people at all. I know one person who does drag. They're okay enough. Just it looks ugly a lot to me, but not in the appealing ugly type of way.

I know one person IRL who does drag. This person also happens to be an SJW and a fan of Sophie Labelle. IIRC this person identifies as Androgyne or something and one time an actual transgender person called them out on their BS which lead to them flipping out and me contemplating on whether or not I should block them.

I get where you're coming from, but I think the difference is that minstrel shows were always meant to dehumanize black people while drag shows are more of a means of self-expression. Most drag queens are already flamboyant, so it's not so much that they're exaggerating feminine stereotypes as they are their own personalities. And of course you have the people who just want a more socially acceptable reason to crossdress. I see no harm in it.
That said, putting your 8-year-old in something as inherently sexual as drag culture is wrong. It'd be one thing if the kid wanted to dress up, but parading him around in the name of ~progressivism~ just feels so skeevy.
