Yes. Karlyn thinks she is exceptionally gifted because school tests and programs. That's one thing, but thinking she is the more "gifted" than anyone else is the really excruciating bit.

When we were much younger, I was aware of super insecure people in my industry (programing and data base engineers, etc.), who always wanted to drop it into conversations the "little secret" that they had been exceptionally bright among all other kids in their high school. They didn't have to study, yet thrived. Teachers were flabbergasted, and occasionally resentful and jealous, of their intelligence.

Please. Very smart kids exist, and they SHOULD be given projects to keep them challenged and engaged in material. However, the child who can make top marks without studying...this is mostly just a myth. Some kids comprehend material faster, retain it longer. But they still have to LEARN it, which takes hard work and discipline.

So there's that. Then there's also the fact that in some of their cases, and certainly in Karlyn's case, they really weren't as rare in the population as they were led to believe by their parents, who meant well but ended up giving their child a way overinflated ego. Mix that in with Karlyn's insatiable need for flattery, while never giving anything back to anyone. And you have one shitty human being.
