in my OP I pointed out that harrop tried being a tory and a green on twitter before going the labor/troon route. He also cared more about getting attention for an equipment shortage at his hospital than trying to get it fixed (he went straight to the media before talking to the people in charge of the problem). Gay men tend to have complicated relationships with Women, and he's in a job that's dominated (at least at the levels he's operating at) by women.

I'm really interested in Harrops short to medium term career prospects. Harrop had a prolonged period as a junior Doctor, for whatever reason (possibly saying the wrong thing to the wrong woman). Then he got accepted to a GP program, which is relatively difficult. Getting into the training program should have been the big hurdle, any other graduate would have walked into a position in a GP practice, but he didn't. He's gone from one locum position to another. Currently he's working for NHS 111.

If people don't know how NHS 111 works, the call handlers you speak to don't require any qualifications, they get a few weeks training. The call handlers have access to a nurse or paramedic. Usually the advice is either book an appointment with your GP, treat whatever is wrong with you with over the counter medicine, or go to Accident & Emergency (occasionally they'll send an ambulance) . Essentially if the call handler is advised by the Paramedic/Nurse that you need to see a doctor, that consultation with a Doctor will happen at A&E. There's no capacity for a phone consultation with a Doctor.

The BMA had all sorts of issues with NHS 111 just like they did with it's predecessor program NHS Direct. In typical BMA fashion they criticise it for being too cautious, while at the same time warning them off for taking risks with the advice they give.

Anyway the reason I'm going through all this, is that I don't think Harrop is manning that phone in his capacity as a GP. I think identical roles are being filled by Paramedics/nurses. It's one of the reasons I don't think he's going to be a practicing Doctor 2 years from now.

He's an insurance liability for starters. A while back his Kiwi Farms entry was on the first page of google search results for his name, now it's back to the second page, however the Reddit and Mumsnet threads about him are on the first page results. He has a big twitter profile, which even if it was completely positive would still be an issue for anyone that could be responsible for letting him near patients.

Say he treats some patient, he does absolutely nothing wrong, he gives top notch care. The patient isn't happy for whatever reason, then goes away and googles him. Any solicitor would lick his lips, no matter how spurious the allegations might be.

It was the Glasgow Airport attack in 2007. A Muslim A&E Doctor drove a car into the terminal building, in the vehicle was a home made bomb that he had constructed out of propane tanks.

He drives the car into a security bollard, however the propane tanks burn, rather than explode. Not only did they not explode they were never capable of exploding, he'd completely misunderstood the physics/chemistry involved in bomb making. The handful of people that were injured, were locals who got burns as they kicked the shit out of him and his accomplice.

I actually think it was his medical arrogance that saved lives. He was a Doctor after all, in his mind of course he knew how to build a bomb.

Anyway that's an extreme example, however in general Doctors aren't some special caste. They have the same proportion of weirdos as any other other profession, it's just they have the BMA looking out for them.
