The youngest of the three I have.
Topaz, rarely snuggles much, but when he does, it's comfy and adorable.
When he's active, it's a different story.
He will walk away from you if you pet him for too long while standing, will desperately try to get inside rooms he's not allowed in, spill his water bowl on purpose, and will try to get into the kitchen shelves
He can be a troublesome feline, but can be avoided by playing with him a day.

I feel you man and hope your friend will be alright. I also had such horrific experience, someone forgot to close window at balcony and our cat Basileus, 9 month old at the time, fell off. From 12th floor. Spent almost a week in oxygen chamber but made it. Only had problems with coordination for a month but now is okay. Wish your guy to heal too

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I really appreciate it.
Unfortunately, we have no choice but to put him down. We were ready to go forward with the procedures, but each time we received new information, our cat's condition seemed to worsen. We love him dearly, but we simply cannot afford to pay 10k in surgery when we know his quality of life won't get better in the future. I just wish they could have told us sooner. Still, I can't help but think we failed him.
Here's one of the last pictures I have of him:

I'm really sorry to hear your news, it's a situation I've been in a couple of times, so understand how distressed you must be feeling. I honestly can't see how you've failed him though, you've done everything that you can & if it's any consolation, at least we get to choose when to end a pets suffering, as opposed to when a human family member is suffering. Keep your chin up & best wishes.

You didn't fail your cat. I've worked in an animal clinic and unfortunately the veterinary surgeons that can pull off these types of surgeries are virtually non existent. The reason you THINK you failed him is because you cannot accept this situation. You are looking for any kind of long shot idea and/or going through all the things you could have done differently. Which are signs of being a good pet owner and being overcome by grief.
I really wish I could hug people over the internet.

Oh, honey, I am so incredibly sorry.
It was a similar situation with Jesse a couple of years ago. He had developed anemia (among other things) and needed a blood transfusion, and they told me he was too old to handle it, so we had to put him down. I'll never forget how I felt that night, and I despise knowing others have to go through that, too.

Thanks again, it really means a lot to me. I don't want to monopolize this thread, so this will be my final update.
We got to see him and stay until the end. The vet told us it was for the best, as the clinic didn't have any drugs that were strong enough to alleviate his pain. I think he recognized my mother, and he tried to purr a little. It didn't take more than a minute for him to fall asleep. We buried him in the garden, near the fountain. He is home now.

This is Poxy, she came from a rescue centre & is one of those cats who acts really cute but gets very violent if you try to move her when she's lying down on a chair, bed or even your lap. She likes people, catnip toys, basking by the fire in winter, shoving her nose into my armpit & going to sleep & she's also addicted to Dreamies & other cat biscuits with a softish centre. She demands these by hooking her paw against the kitchen cabinet door where they're kept, pulling it open a bit, then releasing it, over & over again, making it bang until she gets her treats.
And this is Hunter S. Tomcat, who was feral & lived in the nearby woods & fields until about 3 years ago. He was probably attracted to the house by Poxy, who I'm sure will have violently rejected his advances. I fed him for about 3 months outside until he'd let me touch him, then he started coming inside the house & is now a permanent fixture. He's more like a dog than a cat really, still quite wild at times & disappears for 24 hours about twice a month. Call of the wild or something. He likes eating (lots) & sleeping/lazing about, lying on his back but hates visitors or any kind of noise. I often have to turn down the music or TV for him, he's still nervous. He likes being stroked but won't sit on my lap, not for more than a minute with me holding onto him anyway & he has an annoying habit of pawing at the cat flap repeatedly, so it keeps banging like a drum. So he doesn't mind noise if it's him making it. Bloody autist.
