My old man's thyroid issues are acting up again. His prescription stopped working and he lost several pounds, right now we're waiting on the pharmacy to mix a stronger dose.
Right now he's just a lil' bag of bones
who takes absolutly gigantic man-sized poops. It's impressive and I think he knows this, and that's why he won't bury them. He wants us all to see his work.
Once you get his thyroid under control again, if you can, strongly consider the radioactive iodine treatment that can be done if he is eligible. I know it's a long time to be separated from you, and the treatment itself is not without risk, and finding a provider that can do it can be difficult, and it absolutely costs too much, but it is a permanent fix for life.
The only reason I bring this up is that my big fluffy girl had the same condition, and we seemingly had it under control with meds, and then shit suddenly went sideways so badly that she wasn't eligible for the iodine treatment any longer and she wasn't stable on the meds no matter how hard we and the vet, and even the state veterinary hospital tried, so we had to make the hard choice so she didn't suffer. I thought controlling it with meds would be enough, and my vet did as well, who is one of the best in the state with decades of experienced and training, but I just didn't think we'd be that 2% of cases where shit goes so wrong so fast. If I could do it all over again, I'd do the iodine treatment in a heartbeat knowing what I know now, we lost years that we could have had if we had known what was possible.
Just thought it would be worth mentioning because I don't want to ever see anyone go through the same thing without being aware of what they might be able to do.
