I feel like the average quality of offlaners has gone up since the change to which roles are high demand. There's a lot of obvious previous support mains picking Tide, Axe, and Centaur, but they always have impact and are never useless. On the other hand, I've been seeing way fewer Wraith Kings, Necrophos's, and Snipers in the offlane building late Radiances or Midases and being useless farm vacuums. As for myself, I've played three whole games of Axe, dominated my lane every time, and solidly won all of them. I think core players might just be whiny and stupid, this role is easy.

I got a Treant Protector, a Weaver, and a Spirit Breaker. They were all fine. I've absolutely seen the useless 4s in my games, there was this one enemy Muerta who built two Wraith Bands into Maelstrom and used Observer Wards to block the small camp, but they're not common and aren't more common than useless cores or 5s. You just have to pick an offlane hero that can exist on their own for a minute while the 4 is somewhere else. That's what the role requires.

I have an idea that a lot of the whining about useless 4s that I've seen is due to the 3s also picking greedy.

Both slark and hoodwink have some insane shit you can pull, but a lot of heroes do when you got a 2 hero pool. Most of the fun in the game for me comes from the insanity of it's items and you can't experiment with that if you aren't used to your pick (let alone doing so in divine+ bracket).
Bet you haven't seen slarks rocking blink on the regular. Or madness mask. (and winning)
 
I played like 20 games, and wow did the game turn into a Chinese gacha graphically. The pace of the game seems to have fallen apart entirely. 5 minutes in its just an unknown amount of time spent constantly team fighting with no real sense of progression. Not as much fun as it used to be even if the average skill level was twice as high. Dota died with Skeleton King and got buried with James being an ass.
