So I've been playing through every single official doom release from Doom 1 to TAG2 in preparation for TDA, so far what I've learned is:
- No Rest For The Living is the best official release, followed by Plutonia. I have yet to play SIGIL 2 or LOR yet so I can't speak of the quality of those 2.
- TNT is worse than I remember, like I would be livid if I paid money for it back in the day. Genuinely the worst official release outside of Master Levels.
- Most of the official mega wads haven't really aged well.
- Today is as fitting of a day as ever to play DOOM, I suppose.
Err, not buying that Revenant design either, feels like they made an original enemy (which is good), but decided it should be the revenant. Like, Im fine with the radical changes on the Mancubus and Hell Knight, but the Revenant I think its too iconic.
The design would work great for a Summoner-like foe.
Its the hood I take issue with mostly, but given how TDA seems to be going in the Doom 3 direction in the sense of giving demons completely new designs instead of remaking classic ones I'll let it slide. The only one I don't like is the Caco, I would've settled for a HD version of the Doom 3 design.
Also supposedly Trailer 2 is supposed to drop at WrestleMania tonight.
Doom 2016 has been released on
GOG.
Neat, but unless we're getting proper IDTech6 modding tools it doesn't mean much to me. There's also no multiplayer or snapmap on the GOG release which I thought were pretty fun and not worth omitting.
