Harris should've gone more left and talked about raising taxes on the rich to curb the need for printing money and thus inflation, etc... Sure, MAGAloids would throw a tantrum because the idea of billionaires not getting richer at their expense makes their paypig asses seethe with rage, but fuck them. Although she was probably not going to win anyway since she got such a late start because that retard Biden didn't drop out until August 2024 or whenever it was.
If Harris wanted to win she should've focused on things like housing. Deregulation to make it easier to make more housing, maybe tax incentives to produce more, and maybe even some government program to help produce luxury apartment buildings while also training people in architecture, utilities installation along with whatever else.
People have been complaining how expensive housing is for years and producing more housing of any sort helps bring down prices for everyone, much the boomers' displeasure.
It's a topic that can easily be packaged to please both the left and the right, producing more jobs for blue collar workers, maybe making requirements to hire those with less experience, and making it easier for everyone to afford housing.
I saw a vague comment the other day too about taxing on loans done on unrealized gains. It was in relation to the California proposal on a wealth tax, but basically a more sane version of it.
As I guess current tax law favors borrowing over selling appreciated assets. Since a person could buy assets, hold them as they gain value and enjoy the gains from that value while borrowing against it that may not be considered taxable income even though you're trying to profit from those gains. You could probably package a "wealth tax" meant to appeal to the left as something that really just targets loans like that meant to make everyone pay their fair share, which could also try appealing to the right wingers wanting to get at tax dodgers (not the wealth right wingers of course).
Really, Harris' issue was needing to recognize what needed to be appealed to, which many Democrats have done poorly even analyzing. I think some figures like Newsom have been doing better work on this front due to trying to do things like those podcasts where they can honestly just judge responses to how they've performed to help gauge how the public feels about their various positions.
They need campaigns that can act more reactively to public sentiment, not necessarily changing their own policies based on it, but at least changing the messaging or how they do appearances based on it.
