MAGA is too scared of growing and eating vegetables, and the US doesn't subsidize most food crops other than corn soybeans and sugar. Most ag lands are in foodstock production, crops that are used as processing ingredients, instead of "truck" crops, vegetable crops like tomatoes and watermelons. Since domestic cotton and rice production have severely decreased over the past 20 years, most farmers now are under the thumb of Big Ag more than ever.
