Back in 2015 it would've been very easy to tell, but after covid, after January 6, after the popularity of "brainrot" what even is a normie anymore? Most people use their screens more than ever before, political ideas that used to be discussed only on niche forums are mentioned on mainstream news, my acquaintances are a lot more open about their un-PC sense of humor or beliefs and 4chan is now more friendly and open to trannies than twitter. The shit I get recommended on instagram and facebook isn't that much different from what people talk about here. I still know people that remain surprisingly oblivious about the internet, but they tend to be the types of people that actively try to limit their time online. At the rate things are going, my mum may start sending me pepe frogs.

The only space that really stands out in my mind with being reclusive and made up of proper outsiders is soyjak.party and last I used it, I just recall it being obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious. As if it was a satire of the internet itself.

They pretty much don't exist online because they post little to no content and even a simple comment is rare for them so you won't really come across them while browsing.

People have gotten more online with the advent of smartphones and social media, sure, but they still have normie internet bubbles. I saw a picture of the Nazi chud with a trvth nvke on Xitter, and confused normies were replying to it showing they knew nothing about it and not even knowing what was on the front of his shirt, since the front wasn't visible.
A lot of normies also exclusively get their news from major media outlets. I've had to explain Indians taking over the tech sector to several normies who seemed oblivious to the problem. Anything mainstream media doesn't talk about doesn't register on normies' radar.
Don't forget how censored the internet was (and still is) at the peak of libtard control over everything either. Xitter being so mask-off racist is surprising to normies because social media used to severely censor anything deemed slightly racist until recently. Social media also only shows you what you want to see, so your grandma's or your dyed-hair liberal relative's feed looks a lot different from your's.

They don't post online much online besides family pictures, cooking recipes, or a small update. They still exist! Maybe you can find them in some facebook groups. Also most of them don't really talk about politics unless they are with people they know will absolutely agree with them.
 
Everything we do eventually drips down to the normies, it happened with caturday become lolcats years after it began in 4chan, same with ragecomics, pepe, wojak, etc...

Of course they always get the light version, the near beer variant of the memes, and most don't get the memes at all just share them because everybody else is doing it.

The discussions you see among normies lag those on the internet by years. For example they are just now starting to talk about the kind of social engineering fuckery NGOs do the way gamers did during gamergate 11 years ago.

I used "normie" since I saw "normalfag" way more often being used to denigrate "newfags". People that come into niche spaces, having little clue what they are about, but being loud, obnoxious and entitled about how it should be run. Not so much for people that don't know or do know but don't care about those spaces.

In the past, that might have been a bad thing, but you aren't missing much really. In fact, you avoid a lot of retarded normalfaggot drama (the fake amd gay kind that could be solved by basic communication and common sense, not actual drama that is something to be worried about) that way so it's preferrable to the alternative.

Someone once told me that old people texting is their way of social media and suddenly it all makes a lot of sense. They're still on facebook, still using marketplace, using Messenger hourly. That said, I'd much prefer these normies to whatever passes for the average person online these days. Adult women proudly talking about how much they doomscroll or how much money they use. I feel alienated when I'm like "I want a better life actually and try to live healthily within my means :)".

We've always been told it's better to be a normie who walk around outside all day than to be a shut-in, but these days I'm honestly doubting it. If you have a hobby that puts you outside now and then, and don't value your own life in respect to having a partner and kids, there's no reason to pursue what we once deemed normie behavior. Volunteer on the weekends, clubs and choir after work? It's cause these mf'ers don't know how to use the internet.
 
It's the people who've lived until 2025 and they still say "Well, things are pretty bad, but I guess whatever."

Normies still exist, they're just even worse and more annoying now. They have a vague idea/concept that they're supposed to be nice to all the weirdos in the world, but don't really understand them or care to. They still grill, still mow their lawn, still watch sportsball, they just do it while saying "well, takes all kinds!", or some bullshit like that. They follow the most mainstream news narrative, They think Ukraine is good, and Russia is bad, even though they know nothing about either country. They use facebook, snapchat, instagram.

You know the ones, they're the ones that when you try to talk about what's really going on, they stare back with that fluoride stare. They call you weird or change the topic when you imply that eating processed food is bad for them. They scoff at you when you imply daily weed use is making them dumber. They nod and smile when you say that groceries have tripled in price over the last 5 year but don't seem to mind or care. Any in-depth discussion or why or how the country has gotten so bad is met with the implication that it isn't so bad, or that it's bad because of the current administration, or the last one.

Normies are the ones that resist any discussion of depth. They laugh or joke to break the tension and redirect the conversation. They are the most milquetoast, dull, personality-devoid people you run into in your daily life. When you ask them what they read, they don't. When you ask them what movies they like, it's some mainstream slop. When you ask them what music they like, it's something that's played on the radio in the last 5 years, or worse, some bullshit rap artist whose name you've heard a million times but you've never heard a song by.

You know normies. You run into them at the store, they are your cashier, they are your waiter, your bartender, your family. They are the people whom with you never have in-depth conversations, because they are incapable of it.

If you're younger, you might not feel like there's a lot of normies, but if you've ever heard someone say "It's not that deep bro", and mean it, that's a normie.
 
In defense of normies:
You aren't better than them because you like to sperg about politics and consume more "niche" content. I'd argue you're worse. They just have different values, they might care about their relationships and hobbies more than politics. A lot of you guys would be normies if you had nice jobs, girlfriends, and didn't spend your free time online.

This. Normal people aren’t regularly posting online about hobbies or politics. Even back then, the “normies” you talk about weren’t really normal people, they were just in a different lane.
