Does anyone else genuinely miss the 2000s?

Another thing that sucked about the 2000s was the whole celebrity gossip culture, America was in the midst of a fucking war but people acted like whatever bullshit Lindsay Lohan or whoever did actually mattered.

I feel like the modern equivalent of that though is today's Trump obsession, people hanging on every single thing he says and does.

I really do think the Woke Left of the 2010's emerged not only as a backlash to the Religious Right of the Bush Administration and the Great Recession, but also as a backlash against the celebrity gossip and party culture of the 2000's.

The "everything is political" mindset and the rampant pretentiousness and pseudo-intellectual tendencies of the various SJW subgroups of the Woke Left is partly because of its strong background in academia but also it's likely a response to the anti-intellectualism, hedonistic escapism, and the celebrity gossip culture that was a big part of the wider 2000's pop culture zeitgeist.

Problem was they swung too hard in the opposite direction to where "everything is political", having fun is a sign of "privilege" and is therefore "problematic" and the "you talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded" anti-intellectual mindset of the 2000's was replaced with the hyper-pretentious and extremely postmodern pseudo-intellectualism of the 2010's.

The minimalistic "hipsters and iPhones" aesthetic of the 2010's that came about in the wake of the Great Recession may have been a response to the tacky excesses of the 1990's and 2000's but seriously, can we go back to that? The post-2008 world has been a hellscape but I'm hoping a post-2020 world can be the antidote.

If Trump wins despite the horrors of COVID-19 and the BLM coup, that will cause a cultural shift and from there, the Woke Left will lose patronage from the bigwigs and with that, lose cultural influence. Especially if Trump keeps up the pressure against Critical Race Theory and intersectional leftism

So much this. Most people are not raving plebbit commie lunatics like people seem to think here.
I have actually seen literal insanity on this level from close relatives, even including ones who used to be Republicans when I was the raving libtard, and TDS is over the fucking top even among people I used to consider normies. I have to conceal my political views, even though that they are that Trump is a fat fucking retard, because I just don't think he's actually literally Hitler.

I noticed this too. Many of the morons pushing this crap are very "intellectual", at least on the surface. They kept on shunning anything that wasn't some uber important/intelligent/subversive piece of shit, and propping up anything they deemed as "important" despite it's obviously poor quality, like Black Panther and the Star Wars Sequels, to name a few.

Guess it's the Horseshoe Theory, but for intelligence. And tbh, after a few years of this, it's quite obvious they aren't as smart as they thought lol.

As I said, America is a lot angrier in general. My parents always voted Labour but they haven't gone at all insane, just grumbling about Brexit/Tories/Trump bad (which would have been their views 10 years ago as well). While we have left wing biased media in the form of the Guardian and the BBC, it's a bit less hysterical than CNN and the like so the general social landscape is much calmer outside central London.

That's not remotely true. These kinds of people are famous for comparing everything to Star Wars, superheroes, Harry Potter, and other low brow mass media. The phrase "read another book" was even made up for it.

A lot of the edgy memes put out on the internet were satirical and subversive, but they certainly weren't well received by them.

I like the technology we have now. Smartphones, better looking games, powerful computers etc.. i wouldn't go back to the pentium i had back then. But i would go back for the social media free reality. Crazy to me how people behavior changed since Facebook and Instagram. Finished my high school mid 2000 had a good time. Highschool kids now seems to have it shitty af.

Yes but to these faggots saw themselves as intellectuals in their youth because they were obsessed with starwars, harry potter and capeshit because it was seen as "nerdy" in the 2000's. So these people lapped up anything superficial and easy to seem like nerdy intellectuals and just never moved beyond that.
Remember, tbefore the who Marvel boom, pubicially admitting you even liked super heroes after the age of like 10 made you seem like a manchild.

Spider-Man and Batman had successful film franchises in the 2000s. The superhero boom was already starting back then. To go back to when it really wasn't popular, you're probably looking back to the 1990s, though Batman 1989 was pretty huge.

The 90s for superhero films felt like a bunch of poor attempts to recapture the success of Batman 89, and it never quite happened.

Not to say there were no good comic adaptations in the 90s (TMNT 1, Dick Tracy, Rocketeer, Men in Black, Batman Mask of the Phantasm) but it felt like almost everything else was just kind of in the shadow of that first Burton Batman and nothing could quite live up to it.

X-Men came out in 2000 came out and did pretty good and warranted a sequel and Spiderman came out in 2002 and did even better and was even more popular, then it was off to the races. X-2 and Spiderman 2 were extremely popular and beloved, but pretty well everything else except the Nolan Batman movies was mediocre and followed this dumb formula where you spend half the movie before the hero or villain actually get their powers. You had Catwoman, Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Ghostrider, Electra, etc. all of them falling somewhere between mediocre and terrible.

The big difference is in 2000s they were viewed as dumb popcorn movies that people didn't take seriously, and it'd be a night out with your buddies or family and then it was done and now people act like Marvel Universe movies are on par with fucking Citizen Kane.

I think you are on to something. Remember, most of the woke culture took root in Anita’s videos. Looking at them fully, a big reason she caught on was that she presented herself as one of the many essay channels around the time. Back then, you had losers like extra-credits and MovieBob trying to have these in-depth discussions about gaming and how it is high art. This was likely a counter to the popular “dumb people” entertainment created by James Rolf and Doug Walker as they had cartoonish characters yell and scream at their topics rather than actually review them. This transition is actually pretty apparent, I recently watched a Deadwing stream where he went over multiple AVGN rip-offs all of which were pretty much only on YT for the first three years of the 2010s. Nowadays, all the popular game review channels all have to be smart in some fashion, gone are the days of AVGN, in is giant essay style content lasting an hour at a time. Movies are even worse as it is nothing but people like High-Top Films going over the stunning filmography of Spider-Man movies, or explaining why Marvel movies matter. This all to say, as a culture, we are pushing to be smart now, which is consequentially, making us dumber as we are placing too much stock in the deeper meanings of otherwise mindless films

Back on point, Anita and her followers latched onto the changing culture, which is where they succeeded. The Pop Culture Detective is an imbecile beyond belief and literally just restates the obvious (check his Star Wars video), but he presents this very intellectual structure to all videos, which aids in peddling the stupidity. He seems intelligent, many of these essayists seem intelligent. Even MovieBob was able to hide for quite a while, hence why they are probably more dangerous to culture than you dumb AVGN clone. They provide an illusion of intelligence that plays to people’s egos and thus causes them to go along with it as they are now intelligent.

I think the issue runs deeper than political in all honesty. A lot of this started prior with the inspirational/ deep quote girls, the obviously insecure animation and video games are art peddlers, and really just fandoms in general. I would probably also say that South Park played a major hand in this as well as many took their intellectualism from that and have all become way more cynical than that series ever was, likely due to the constant pushing of its smart episodes like the Scientology bit. I think that the 2010s has really just been a bad bit of people trying to find acceptance for many interests, be it gaming or animation, or comics, or whatever. Maybe the anime boom of the 2000s even aided in this as somehow Japan can see things like a comic or cartoon as adult, yet America cannot, so now these super insecure people who were likely treated as losers for years need to vent about ‘how actually...Looney Tunes was made for adults back in the day‘.
I will give them credit, they are not wrong, but they do need to tone it down. I remember the animation community being big for me back in the early 2010s, but I ended up leaving as the whole movement devolved into 24/7 insecurity and pseudo-intellectualism rather than appreciation. Steven was held on a pedestal because it had adult writing and they really went hard on TTG because it would make animation look like a children’s product. If anything threw animation back into being for children and manlets, it was the animation community, not minions or TTG.

South Park is actually hated by PC types for mocking trannies and having fairly even-handed satire of both parties. I can't see it having had any effect on them at all.
You would be surprised. Going back to my experience with the animation community, typically Family Guy had a huge influence on them, yet they will rip it a part as mindless garbage that they used to like. PC types may hate South Park now as it is the “unintellectual and hateful drivel” of today, but just like Family Guy, it likely had more of an impact than these people want to admit. Same goes for other shows like SpongeBob typically. I guess it is a form of maturing.

It does not help that South Park attacked PC culture while it has historically been left wing in 2015. They likely just lost the audience as their fans grew worse than expected. But I cannot know for sure, I will admit. Just something about South Park’s cultural significance strikes me as an enabler.

South Park was never left wing. They mercilessly mocked Al Gore in the early series.

Also if you seriously think the BLM riots this year were because of cartoons, I really don't know what to say. The left going crazy is caused by the behaviour of the news media and politicians, not fan communities.

Watch Chef Goes Nanners, Cripple Fight or Butt Out and tell me South Park was historically left wing. Trey Parker was famously libertarian for years.

Sorry, misspoke. The series was never really had one ideology, it made fun of all the lefties that believed Bush did 9/11 after all, and typically takes a moderate stance. The series was more held up by the left in the 2000s/ 90s, same with series like Simpsons or Family Guy. All were offensive and pissed off old school fundies looking for decency. Heck, most of their audience was likely libertarian who voted Obama because Obama is cooler than Bush and the fundies.
I guess in saying this, South Park was more of a left-wing thing until recently because the left were more accepting of free speech and indecent material. It was a show against the fundies in a similar vein to the Simpsons and promoted rebellious attitudes so to speak.

Now the Left has become “conscious of their bigoted ways”, hence why they now resent most of the raunchy comedies as works of the past. Now the libertarians of old are Republicans. Does this explain it?

Yeah, I get what you mean. Free speech used to be a leftist issue because the people trying to censor everyone were Maude Flanders and Helen Lovejoy. Now that the left has full control over the media it's become a right one.

It's still worth noting though the the extreme progressive stack was pushing language police shit long before the early 2000s. Stuff like mail carrier as opposed to mailman and fire fighter as opposed to fireman. Free speech has always been getting squeezed from both sides, the power balance has just flipped.

I miss the "Fuck you" and Wild Wild West attitudes of the internet from the early 2000s.

Now its transformed into something I barely recognize.
I miss just the single rule being don't be a fucking idiot and if you called someone a Nazi you automatically lost and literally everyone in the discussion would join in on mocking you for being that absolutely goddamn retarded. I think even Mike Godwin now unironically calls people Nazis.
