I can't look at mainstrean social media without noticing the narrative control, propaganda, and socital manipulation that goes down there. You'll have to find niche communities that exists in the far corners on those websites where your average pleb wont ever find unless they go out of there way to find it. The whole internet used to be an irrelevant place for nerds. Now the main-net is a relevant place for nigger cattle, and obscure forums such as ours is an irrelevant place for nerds. Freedom vs control is always a rat race.

What HAS changed is that 95%+ of traffic is on something like 20 websites now and hosting anything that has a different TOS than the main-net is nigh impossible. That is a much more serious problem. At this point we either need a new style of internet or a foreign nation to invest in hosting services where they don't give a shit about American politics and just want money.

As a side note, my entire life growing up, people always complained about "soulless corporations just wanting money". Well NOW you know what it looks like when money takes a back seat.

The evolution corporate owned websites like Cracked underwent from 2014-2016 is still absolutely insane to look back on, in real time you could see the shift to pure, bald faced propaganda, especially once Gamergate happened.

Cracked is what I keep thinking of as the best example of this, we go from a website that was mainly "here's interesting facts about various topics" to nothing but "here's what you should think about this political topic" and it was clear as day as it was happening and that was the shift every website went from, it went from facts and opinions to blatantly telling you what you should think.

The internet was one thing in 2013, then it became an entirely different thing by 2016, there's literally not a single corporate owned website with employee writers I bother to spend my time on, it's literally nothing but propaganda down to every single word.

I wish the internet stopped as it was back in 2010.

In some ways the internet was not as interesting in 2010 as it was in say 2006 or 2007, but it was still a lot better in 2010 than it is today.

It's the same for me, all my life people used to bemoan "soulless corporations just wanting money" and it's hard to comprehend or even understand the meaning that there really is something worse than simple greed, it's really hard to take.

Greed is at least a more honest and a lot easier to understand, the attitudes we're dealing with today, like people cutting off parts of their own body just because they want, are so utterly alien, greed is like a comforting old friend compared to that insanity.

And greedy corporations at least just wanted your money and were willing to give you something that made you happy in return for it, today it seems like corporations not only intentionally want you to be unhappy, they want you dead.

I guess what we're talking about is simply power, corporations already had all the money, so they got bored with that, now they want power, power over your mind, your body, your actions and power over whether you live or die.

I watched a few docs that actually explained HOW FB and Twitter work with their algorithms and frankly, it was pretty nasty stuff. And I can think of a few friends I lost on FB over arguments until I finally shut down my FB. Over stupid shit.

FB and Twitter figured out nothing gets more traffic than outrage and they pretty much just work on that.

I was never much of a Reddit guy; but I got attracted to KF simply because some of the guys on here really go to efforts to dig up shit and get some steely facts on things and that's something I really admire. When these dudes Dox they don't fuck around, and their targets are pretty well selected too.

The largest issue Ive got with anything on the internet is rage gets lots of attention, and the inclination to immediately hop onto a discussion before ANY of us have done any real homework on the subject invariably results in many of us saying something that isn't 100% to start off with, but because we said it, now we have to stick to it. Doesn't make for good resolutions.

I get Reddit thrown in my face a lot because of a few friends I have who I've known forever, they keep trying to get me to go on there. Granted one of them also thinks John Oliver is a credible source and journalist so that just shows how much Reddit rots the human brain.

I have a facebook to keep in contact with one friend, I log in every so often to chat with him, log off and then never look at it aside from that. It's garbage and frustrating to try and use because of all the manipulation.

I have a twitter that I use for art and commission notifications because I'm an awful degenerate. I barely look at anything else on there though but I can only imagine how bad it is with manipulation since even some of my normie friends complain about it.
