My father was an avid reader in his younger days, before he had kids. He was a fan of Stephen King, among other authors. I'm not sure about my mother, but she did insist on us getting an education. So whether or not she could read well, she ensured we could. I used to love reading quite a bit; mostly nonfiction such as history textbooks. During high school, however, I began to see the usefulness in fiction, as certain genres help give color and character to bare historical facts.

Now I'd say Historical Fiction is my preferred genre of literature, though I've occasionally dabbled in fantasy (such as The Lord of the Rings).

I read a lot when I was a kid. This inspired me to look into my local library so I can get back into it. I also have a few books in my shelf waiting to be read.
Now it seems like most people communicate through sending media back and forth. It's always my hope that any video or picture sent will inspire a deeper conversation. Except this one, this is for the laughs.

I get paid to sneed, not to read.

That being said, I've read and digested everything from Tom Clancy to Tom Pynchon. Then spent about a decade reading mostly non-fiction physics, math, and ancient history books. And these days I don't read much. I think it is because I stay up too late a d just crash when I hit the bed. Whereas I used to slot in 30-60 minutes to read myself to sleep.

Let's just say that the Book-It program and my local Pizza Hut loathed my reading skills.

I do not believe in this "functionally illiterate" bullshit. They can just take any arbitrary standard and call that "functionally." Same as they like to report on this food insecurity shit and call it hunger because the poorfag has to make a tradeoff between buying the food and buying something else (unlike olden times when people did not expect to eat every day).

Everyone can read road signs, menus, and write their names, which is literacy.
We have a lot more niggers than Finland or Japan. It will always artificially handicap any positive statistic or inflate any negative ones.
I've heard that when you adjust for Black population's effect on violent crime, the South is equivalent to the North and the US is equivalent to Europe. Not sure if true, is probably more or less true.

It is. I wish I could find the article, but this guy did a really thorough breakdown of violent crime statistics around the world and found that the two consistent factors in high-crime areas (he broke it down by rich and poor countries, rates of gun ownership, all sorts of stuff and it was always consistent) were

1. Large wealth disparities in a relatively small geographic area

2. Black population

To his credit, he was very transparent about his findings, but he did tack on a disclaimer "of course that doesn't mean anything, so stop noticing things!" at the very end.
