To answer the curious about Japan. AOC from 1907 to 2023 was listed as 13 in the national penal code rule however much like the U.S or Europe, each state or in Japan's case prefecture has local laws regarding AOC. Every one of Japan's 47 prefectures has its own Youth Protection Ordinances (Seishōnen Hogo Ikusei Jōrei). These ban "indecent acts" (including sexual activity) between adults and anyone under 18. While the Supreme Court has ruled they don't automatically criminalize every consensual teen relationship (note they use the word teen not teen-adult I.E two people aged 15 and 16) they are actively enforced against exploitative situations and adults and give police broad tools to protect minors. Post 2023 the national penal code was upped to 16 but the prefecture laws stayed the same as they were already higher than the national penal code. The reason being was people saw the national age of 13 and thought it meant 13 plus is fine and thus was upset. The reality was confusing to explain so they upped it to avoid confusion in the G7.

There's also the society angle. Like most of the first world relationships that are legal but immoral are looked down upon as you mentioned. Though the AOC is 16, a 16 year old and a 35 year old is weird and bad in the eyes of society. Same with a 16 and 20 year old or anything of the sort. As for brothels, they exist but are rare just like they exist in other places and are rare. I don't know the fine details because honestly I don't care to know but they're hard to find and usually illegal but fall in an area difficult for police to intervene because it's considered a civil matter and police can't get envolved unless they have proof of legetimate law breaking like someone recording a session in one and giving it to the police etc.

This is not an endorsement of bad things, nor am I trying to trivialize or lessen the bad things that do exist. However I wanted to clear up any potential confusion regarding Japan's AOC as I see it misrepresented a lot and it's not the fault of the person repeating it. The completionist guy is, after looking at other posts, very retarded, very creepy and he is very likely talking out his ass. IF anyone has any questions regarding Japan, it's society or laws I would be willing to provide as strait forwards of an explenation as possible. I have no reason to white knight for Japan or make things up about it because things never get better that way. I like sharing information with people. However AOC talks do often make me feel uneasy as the only people who regularly talk about it are sick and have ill intentions. Sex tourists and the like should be hanged me thinks.
