Do people unironically listen to these musicians?

Agreed, apart from his first album. It's from before he went up his own arse.
I dunno, I've always deferred to the fact that Zappa worked with him and wouldn't do that with a completely talentless fuck, but never really liked him either. TMR is not something I'd listen to on purpose.

If you like his first album you'd have to like at least some of the Spotlight Kid.
He's sperging out on a clarinet for the first 3:25 but then plays a great song. Then he narrates an autistic poem over guitar riffs for a few minutes and then plays great song. Pretty emblematic of his entire discography imo. I really like most of what he's done though, including the weird paintings.

You should have had Captain Beefheart on that list. Completely unlistenable, pretentious wank. Anyone that tries to tell you that Trout Mask Replica is a ‘good album’ is by default an arch-cunt of unfathomable proportions.

Pink Floyd aren’t too far behind, but one admittedly has to acknowledge some of their pioneering work.
Captain Beefheart has some really good songs before TMR (the entire Safe as Milk album) and after TMR (mostly Clear Spot). Hell, TMR has a few really good if unconventional songs, Pachuco Cadaver is just great music.

Pink Floyd is very anemic though. The Wall is probably the most listenable of their albums but thats just because I like the more agressive songs. Pigs is fine too I guess.

Pink Floyd is British, none of them are especially talented, and the absolute fucking sellouts try to claim Comfortably Numb isn't about shooting heroin and that they, in fact, never even did drugs! That's marketable, right?! Fuck Pink Floyd.

When I was a teen I used to think it was about their psych medication. Honestly thought so bc I knew that Roger Waters was a diagnosed sadbrains and Syd Barrett was a schizo. So I figured they were talking about being given their happy pills by the guys with the butterfly nets.

I almost think this is a master trole thread because who would list Prince and Pink Floyd first and then all those asshats?
Yeah, I have a hard time believing someone could genuinely put Prince and Pink Floyd with shitty pop artists from today. Nobody is going to remember Maroon 5 or Cardi B in 10, 15 years tops.

Maroon 5 makes gay music about relationships and women.

Compare that to relatable musicians like 100 gecs who know the thrill of stealing money from a jockey, or Death Grips who sing about itgoesitgoesitgoesitgoesYUUUUH

You WILL wear the hat, and you WILL enjoy the best musician of all time.

Bluejeans and Moonbeams gets a lack of flack for being so conventional compared to Beefheart's other music, but I've always found it an intriguing listen. The title track and Observatory Crest have a strong, hazy Summer dreamlike quality to them.
