In the modern day when ads are literally everywhere and you cannot escape, I wonder if this stuff actually works or it's just bloat, bullshit that just justifies some jobs existing or just marketing bs.

I block any ads I can, ignore most I can't. Very rarely there are ads that can influence me. When I am walking somewhere, hungry, and I see a food ad, from all the ads I've seen, that is probably the only type that has the "desired" effect on me. Other times I notice an ad it is usually because of its stupidity or offensiveness to me, which makes me remember the product/service and never buy it.
Also as an aside, I cannot remember a time that even a food ad made me buy some food, they just make me more hungry.

Do supermarket circulars count as "ads"?

If there is a decent deal on something I might pick it up at a different store within a reasonable distance.

I have a feeling that your general farmer is going to be resistant to ads.

I cannot see a lot of us not using adblock or brave.

they are designed to control you on a subconscious level and are forced upon you at every possible opportunity without your consent. adblock is a moral imperative. if not just for the sake of your own sanity. I yearn for the day that you can get ai glasses that automatically recognize and block all ads. they will probably be super illegal too lmao

If an ad gets past my adblock and is annoying I will go out of my way to not purchase that brand if it's something I require. My definition of annoying is any YouTube ad I can't skip after 5 seconds, all popup/unders, I'm sure page ads would be annoying to but I don't think I've seen one of those in years.

If you're talking about "ads" in the sense of google search ads, or billboard ads, or radio ads, or situations where you get an ad on a youtube video or a mid-roll sponsor read then no, they never work (Mostly because I'll never see them under normal circumstances anyway). People who work in marketing are satanists who will never have your best interests at heart. There's a vast and rich attention economy nowadays after all.

In the sense of someone "advertising" something to me then yeah I've gotten a product because of it a few times. Rule of thumb is that my opinion of a product is decreased drastically if I only hear about it because someone was paid to bring it up.
