DMZ is a series of comics published by Vertigo, the story is pretty much about the second American Civil War and it takes place in NY, our main character is Matty Roth, photojournalist who ventures into the war torn city to document what has been going on there.
Needless to say this show has nothing to do with that, taking the story in a different direction.
Yay, another series starring a STRONG BLACK WOMAN.
I've been interested in the original comic but I bet this TV series has little to do with it and even the comic I'm sure is way dated coming from the pre-Trump era.
Definitely set in a city setting. A good 'ol boy with his deer rifle would have put one between her eyes in the first five seconds from a quarter mile away.
I liked the comic when it was coming out (Haven't read it in years) but you knew they weren't going to go with the original story since it portrayed a member of the press as a good person.
Also, you just know this is going to have one of the sides be MAGA boys who are all incompetent morons, but somehow still threatening.

I read the comics a few months ago and the whole civil war plotline is angry hillbilles and veterans pissed that the government is pissing away trillions in foreign wars and eroding civil liberties, They form a Government called The Free States and control the majority of the country. The American Government is actually depicted as really fucking evil while the Free States are depicted as morally flexible.
Some Notes, The Comics ran from November of 2005 to February of 2012 and thus was written during both Bush II Term II and Obama Term I. The comics were obviously written during the GWOT and has a lot of influences from the time period. Overall I would say they were decently written but have a really, really stupid ending.

I mean, as flexible as you can get. In a way, the comic shows both sides are huge douchebags who are ready to fuck anyone just so their side gets the upper hand.
As for the TV series, I mean I ain't surprised this is what we go. I recall this thing was in creative limbo since the comic was finished, plus one needs to remember the comic was around the Bush-era, which would have been more topical with how nutty the Republicans were getting. But after Bush was off, we had Obama, Trump, and now Biden, with both political parties becoming literal clowns who prance inside their private tents.
