BG3 final act was not nearly as bad as DOS's. The city had a ton of shit to do in but the issue is that you get max level pretty fast and then there's not a lot of point in doing most of the stuff there. Weirdly the level cap was there entirely because of Karlach.

BG3 could have expanded act 3 and allowed you to level to 15.

Have you played those games? Casters in both were very strong, imo, to the point where it was hard to justify not playing one if you cared about being powerful. I liked the selection in BG2, but even then it broke combat because you could time stop, kill everything, rest, and repeat. And since the enemies also had the same spells lists, combat turned into who could remove the spell defenses off each other first and situations where you’d be destroyed in the first few rounds.

I think Larian could have made it work, but when I think about the Act 3 bosses, balancing would have been very difficult even with the enemies scaled up.

Feel like this is the result of them letting every character potentially be the PC, which is an insane waste of resources and always makes playing a custom character feel like an afterthought. Did anyone actually play a fixed PC the first time through BG3? Or the second? Durge doesnt count.

In DOS2, you'd choose your 3 companions as a permanent party, and the rest (2) would die. I really hope this won't make a comeback as it was retarded in retrospect.

It's more breaking the story. I gave Karlach as an example because clerics of those level could just regrow her heart and that's it (that being said, as far as I remember she doesn't have an actual end game event anyways).

Actually I liked it. Besides the shock of them dying, it gives you good replayability and forces you into the sticking with the party rather than playing musical chairs so no one gets offended since they weren't there to see you defile their home.

as someone who started the RPG trope of levels with korean rpg's, seeing level 15 being considered end-game is offputting as fuck when you are used to level 600 and over 12000 stat points to allocate, i was genuinely puzzled when i saw a kiwi complaining about reaching level 12 before you reach baldur's gate and didn't know that such lowlie number is the max level in the game.
although there is a mod to allow you to reach level 20 and a modpack that tries to give the 5e ruleset feels.

a bit offtopic but from the few things i gathered, 8th level magicks are near godhood tier and there was a fuckup that mystra got so assfucked she literally prohibited mortals from ever reaching the 10th level and above spells which are supposedly godmagic, stat wise classificaiton is also weird-ish as 15 stat level is already something exceptional and 20 is ultra megafucker tier, anything above that is godlike stats...
it's fucking weird, to me that is, especially since i usually pick the 18~23 stat equips and give it to the companions that need it the most on their supportive stats, 20 and so is reserved for their main stats as my karlach has 19 str but i'm using the health amulet to lock her constitution to 23, had to give the gloves to helsik, besides it would break the cloth thingy as i buff her with mage armor.
i might be compelled to pick DOS2 again just for giggles as going with the punchbag cleric build worked wonders for me.

I don't really like how much of a massive boost individual levels are in western RPGs, and having some sort of progression within the levels will at least alleviate it rather than make the games some weird hybrid of gear based progression until you pass a level and literally double your DPS.

I'm also pretty sure they wanted to avoid the DOS2 problem where you have this weird level range (17-21) entering Arx depending on how autistic you were at finishing side quests. If you were underlevelled (17-18) when going to Arx you're going to have a bad time for the first few fights until your levels caught up, due to the obscene scaling of levels there.

I forget which level I was when I made it to Arx (before enhanced edition came out) but I had missed some quests on driftwood and the gods island so some of the arx fights were absolute ballbusters. Had to reload a lot to position my party in far more advantageous spots. Meanwhile in BG3 fights were a lot more fair and there wasn't a constant need to get the best positioning available every single fight in act 3

Both of those games run on different rulesets: Neverwinter on 3e edition where casters were broken and BG1 on an edition where casters were more constrained.

Agreed. 8th level arcane spellcasters get Mind Blank which would counter anything the Absolute could do to you. They’d have to change the end game bosses to something else entirely to have it make sense at that point.

It's worse than bible thumpers, since those at least were married adults that were somewhat religious. Most modern online right are unmarried, consume copious amount of porn and would probably burst into flames on even approaching a church.

The bible thumpers are still around, just not here on the farms in any number. There are gamer chuds who don't care about the Jesus Larp, but there is some overlap here with the two who somehow can play fantasy games without being consigned to burn eternally in a fiery pit, somehow.
You'll find a lot of them on the farms, many of the middle, and a truckload of the latter, but regular bible thumpers generally avoid this place. The third, the overlap between the two are very annoying and vocal. The first group just thinks video games are for kids or that they are demon magic.

Mind I tried the last one, but I was just mostly bored to sleep. The incense was nice, but the priest didn't want to tell me where he got that, it goes well with 40k games. Judaistic religions are.... just boring. At least the Philippino boys crucify themselves on Easter with real nails, now that's something I can respect.

Pretty much. That said, if you dont care for their personal quests/backstory, no big deal.

EDIT: You can also just install a mod to let you rescue everyone. The only thing about this is I dont know how it interacts with the Nameless Isle main quest, as the final battle there uses the dead companions as your "rivals".

Regardless of whether that trailer was "appropriate" or whatever, to me it certainly isn't appealing at all, and first impressions matter, like what am i to expect from a game that shows something like that as the very first showing?
That there's some degen cult that's central to the story? Okay, but couldn't they keep that a secret and reveal it further in the game instead, wouldn't that have a much better impact, especially if they were to make the trailers more traditional fantasy fare with some combat and heroism to give that more upbeat(?) impression to then reveal the dark secrets in game?

That would seem to me to be a better approach instead of going for the cheap shock value(Which it is, don't pretend it's not)?

Anyway, the fact they're doing the DEI BS in a European looking setting is already putting me off, i'll never be conditioned to accept that as normal or appealing, so the game's a no go for me.
