Anyway, went on my last Disneyland trip before Fall- because fuck Disneyland in the summer- and there's so, so, so much Americana/4th of July merch.

@Unnecessary Surgery Land
Not quoting because you got a long post, but the America stuff is for the 250th anniversary of the founding of America.
Also May has similar stuff in most stores (not necessarily Disney, but most physical stores of varying types) for Memorial Day. It's only a few weeks away.

Sounds like they're trying to reign in the aggressive Disney Adult/Autist (is there truly a difference?) that was becoming the main part of the pin trading thing.

Good luck, pretty sure they'll be dealing with a frighteningly large number of adults throwing a fit about this.
I’m mostly hearing positive things about it, a lot of casual traders and some professional traders don’t like the attitudes that some of the Frontierland mega-traders have (although the latter group only hates them because some people have zero social awareness and actively try to trade multiple pins and/or money for one pin).

One of the main complaints I’m hearing from traders is how vague Disney is being regarding what constitutes as “small handheld Pin Trading accessories” to the company, there are some binder-style pin carriers that can be held in the hand but for one reason or another Disney hasn’t actually specifies what fits that classification.

How could you forget the wonderful Sam Eagle popcorn bucket we’ll be getting next week?

With Peter Docter saying fuck off to Tumblr storytelling, them canceling that god-awful magical girl show, the park hiding the sequels... I kinda have hope for the future. Almost. Sort of.

About a year ago Disney World had an area with carnival games they were shutting down. They had exclusive dinosaur plush toys for prizes, but they were rapidly running out of these with the closure still months away. Next thing you know normal plush toys were being used as prizes. They never came right out and said it but everyone came to the obvious conclusion that these were overstock that wasn't selling. It wasn't any new stuff and most of it were things that were an obvious swing and miss like the nuimo of the girl from Turning Red and a plush toy of the female sloth that appears in Zootopia for five seconds.

What should make an appearance but pride Mickey and pride Stitch plushes. In Fall/Winter. And they had enough to last until it shut down.

And that's their heavy hitters. Stitch gets his own day where they release a fresh Stitch line to go along with all the normal stuff a month in advance. They release like four Mickeys per year because they usually sell. But they had plenty of these things still laying around.

What does that say about how well Pride sells?

With their movie division taking so much of a hit lately, I think they realized how important the parks are now so they're probably terrified after what they saw happen to Bud Light.

The parks have been on the decline for decades. EPCOT is one that comes to mind. But the enshittification has really accelerated in the last decade. The parks aren't as fun or creative as they once were.

Dreamfinder EPCOT.WEBP
You now remember the Dreamfinder. He was cool. Disney boardmembers never understood him. Thats why they murdered him and why the parks aren't fun anymore.

To be fair you can still find Pride merch throughout the parks and Disneyland is still having its "after-hours" Pride Nite event in June.

The ironic part is that, while Dreamfinder is lying dead somewhere in the Everglades, Figment (and Orange Bird to a lesser extent) has become the de facto park mascot for the WDW complex. Heck I can find merch of him on the Disney Store and The Disneyland Resort.
Kinda glad I haven't been back to the disney parks since 2012(I just went to the water parks in 2018).
My recent visits to the Disneyland Resort have been okay but their Lightning Lane crap is a necessity if you want to do everything in one day and you're in a group (some rides offer single rider passes but they're not too common), even more so if you want to ride Radiator Springs Racers or Rise of the Resistance. But those two rides aren't covered by their Multi Pass, you'll either have to buy a Single Lane pass for a separate charge or buy their Premier Pass.

Figment surviving the Imaginapocolyse is a silver lining but the ride needs to be rebuilt. They fucked it up badly. Allegedly the bearing that supported the 3 Dreamfinder blimps (which the ride cars rotated around as the set rotated like a merry-go-round) wore out and they decided to cut out that part of the ride then retool it.

The retooling was never as good and nowadays is some lame British dude and figment. Why they didn't replace the bearing, which seemed to have been a replaceable part that one would expect to be a consumable?

I think the answer is Disney management at the time. They wanted exciting rides like Space, which is fun but is also not a ride for the whole family and even as a healthy young adult I only ever rode it once per day at the end of the day and still almost fainted the last time I rode it. Meanwhile, The Land is still super popular at EPCOT exacting because it's a chill fun ride that is creative.

Soaring was a smart addition as well.

If people call this nigga a male roll model then we are fucked.

Weak men aren't role models as there's nothing greater to them to aspire to. It's things like this is why it's twin the "alpha male" exists as despite how toxic and internally/ spiritually weak the latter is, the conquest is at least a draw on the surface level.

Toy Story should have ended after the third film. It was a nice sendoff to the toys and their owner.
You don't get it, Toy Story made money so IT. WILL. NEVER. END. You WILL watch Toy Story 12. You WILL buy the merch. Your nostalgia WILL be mined and you WILL be happy.

Disney used to make sensitive guys that just clicked with their love interests and loved each other, like Snow White's Prince, Philip, Charming, and Eric. They get mocked now for not being realistic enough.

- Hercules is the more sensitive open one, Meg has a whole song about refusing to admit she likes him. Hercules is just a nice dude who wants to fit in and it turns out the best way to do that is to develop gigantic muscles, but even after that he's awkward in the hero role until he gets used to it.

- Aladdin and Jasmine's issue is that he's lying to her. They get along fine and have pleasant conversations about their hopes and dreams before that. complaining about the issues in their lives together and realizing they're very similar. Once Aladdin smooths that over with the "oh yeah that guy in the market was me I just pretend to be poor" line Jamine is all in on him, no fixing required. In fact, the entire point is that Aladdin is great as he is and didn't need to be fixed with a wish.

- Simba and Nala find the concept of being together strange as kids, but then jump right into it as adults, clicking instantly. You could use the term "guarded" to describe him trying to forget about his trauma if you stretch, but adopting a relaxed lifestyle where you don't worry about things is hardly a common male characterization.

- Tarzan doesn't understand social cues at all, he has issues wtih Kerchak but is very open and enthusiastic about his love for Jane. She has to let go of the whole functioning member of society thing for him. The movie also contains the immortal line "I've had it with you and your emotional constipation" spoken by a male character to a female one, though not in reference to a romance.

- Buzz just walks up to Jessie, compliments her hair, and them BOOM they're in a very positive relationship where no one has to be fixed.

- Flik is enthusiastic and eager to prove himself, complimenting Atta before she gets anywhere near warming up to him, while she's worried all the time and has to overcome it. They're a lot like Aladdin and Jasmine, where Flik already has a lot of great qualities but ends up entangled in a lie trying to prove himself worthy of praise, while the two of them have a conversation where they find their inner worries are very similar.

- While Kuzco is technically the main character of Emperor's New Groove, Pacha is officially the pauper of this former Prince and the Pauper duo, and he is a loving family man who has an infinite supply of patience and forgiveness as the opposite to Kuzco's extreme self centeredness. Also Kuzco's got a lot of flaws, but none of them are this.

- Aladar's shtick is being the most compassionate dinosaur and he wins over his love interest by being good with kids. Their only real issue is that the monkey got them off on the wrong foot.

- Milo is a wimp, the adult equivalent of a school outcast. When he meets Kita, after some initial tentative greetings because of the circumstances, they get along great, being two people interested in the world the other comes from. Milo is quick to talk to his friends coworkers about his motivations when given the chance (compare him to Vinny trying to avoid backstory time), is expressive to a dorkish degree, and when shit hits the wall and the other people on the expedition are about to leave the Atlanteans for dead Milo stops them through the awesome manly might of...guilt tripping.

- Fuckin' WALL-E and EVE you stupid fuckin' morons.

- Naveen is the open, freespirited one while Tiana is the guarded one.

And a lot of the films that I didn't mention also don't feature the type of character they're complaining about, but they star children or at least don't have a love interest to begin with.

This is only a thing recently where they don't know how to write and keep doing the same thing over and over again. Though even then it's not really fair to judge Disney's recent love interests when they don't make any!

It isn't just that Disney no longer believes in characters earning their relationships, development, or even having an arc - The company is too soulless to admit or understand that such details are necessary. There is zero care paid to the experience or what's taken away from it once people have been tricked into buying the ticket or renewing the subscription. The slop trough is Disney-branded; and that's expected to be enough.
