John Musker recently did an interview where he shares his thoughts about Disney currently.
Wait, how in TF did you guys miss this from the article?
He did, however, criticize the recent remake of his earlier film The Little Mermaid, saying, “They didn’t play up the father-daughter story, and that was the heart of the movie, in a way. And the crab — you could look at live animals in a zoo and they have more expression, like with The Lion King. That’s one of the basic things about Disney, is the appeal. That’s what animation does best.”

Holy shit, all their hopes and dreams rest on Inside Out 2's shoulders, doesn't it? :story:
Unironically, yes, apparently.
In June 2023, Pixar’s Elemental, a film in which characters embodying fire and water fall in love, opened in cinemas to the worst box-office numbers in the company’s history. “We were all kind of gut-punched, and it was tough on morale,” says Jim Morris, Pixar’s president. “I thought it was a good film with a Pixar feel, so when it didn’t work, that was like, ‘Whoa.’ I was thinking, ‘Do people just not want to see the kind of film we make anymore? Is that done?’ ”
Morris’ strategy to turn things around involves balancing original movie ideas with sequels and spinoffs, the better to remind audiences what they once loved about Pixar. Every hit of yesteryear is being considered for a reboot, with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles regarded as particularly strong candidates for new titles. Morris aims to make three movies every two years—historically it’s been closer to one a year—with every other title a sequel or spinoff and the rest standalone concepts or potential seeds for new franchises.

There was a leak of the pitch bible for a “Recess” sequel/reboot. Crossposting from the animation thread.

At first glance, I was kinda into the idea…until I read what they did with the original group.

TLDR: TJ became a rich privileged shut in, Spinelli is a bisexual lawyer married to Vince, Vince is super talented and running for mayor, Gretchen is a hot model, Mikey DIED, and Gus became a woman.

If you have ANY love for the show, I highly recommend you DO NOT READ THIS!

She looks uglier. I presume because of "current year" or just good old incompetense from pushing away anyone with talent?
While possible, the more likely answer is that it's just a different model/setup. This was original going to be a show, so they wouldn't be using the same setup as they would for a film. The models would be easier to animate to make things faster and cheaper, so now it looks like this.

Compare it to this other show and you can see what I mean about the models:
