one time a long time ago it was halloween and it was raining not unlike this one today and i was small and mom didn't want us to go out in the rain cause like walking around with a small wet child would probably get annoying pretty quickly so instead of getting candy that year she got us ET on VHS and it was p cool and at the time i didn't know it but it turns out that ET on VHS was kind of a big deal because it was the first VHS that was like priced to move if you know what i am saying cause before all that having a home movie library was seen as like a rich person thing but ET on VHS kind of changed all that and from that day forward even us poors could afford to start building movie libraries and so thank you ET on VHS for helping me love movies better and also happy halloween everyone if you are going out stay dry and if you are staying home why not watch ET on VHS? and maybe have some Pepsi too do you remember crystal pepsi that shit was the bomb

I remember the tape occasionally broke in my favourites, and I'd crudely stick it back together myself.
It worked, more or less, though sometimes I'd have to fast forward through the damaged part to make sure it didn't get stuck

For me it's not even about the clunkiness, but about the durability. You could practically throw a VHS tape full force down a flight of stairs and it would probably survive. A DVD? One good scratch fucks the whole thing up and you need to get the damn thing resurfaced.
Tech used to be tough. I remember I actually DID accidentally drop my SNES down a flight of stairs when I was a kid. It survived like a boss. Bet a modern console would be irrepairably fucked if you even dropped it onto a carpeted floor.

i miss how tech stuff use to be made in general, all those "fancy" feeling coatings that either turn sticky or just disintegrate piss me off daily or the fact that everything was physical, if i really loved a game i would put it in my bookshelf as decoration, nowadays you dont even get to own it, but to be fair im most likely just a nostalgic cunt
