If I was a government that wanted to be the first country to land on the moon and have it televised. There's no way I'd want any chance of the astronauts to be killed being broadcast live on US television.

But why bother wasting the money from the development of the first launch? I agree that NASA wouldn't have wanted to publicly lose multiple highly trained astronauts on live TV and it would have been a blow to national morale in general, but they had already lost several astronauts before even getting into orbit. They knew the risks and kept going. And the risk of a faked landing being exposed would have been way worse than simply giving the USSR ammo.
Burning up and dying in space are literally what astronauts are for though

anyone who thinks it's fake is straight up retarded. everything ever recorded can show things that look like "mess ups". for example, the flag waving as if there was wind. if you actually use your fucking eyes, you can see a telescopic pole. the wrinkles are from when it was screwed up and got shaken around from launch and being in a shaking shuttle for 4 days.

every little "oopsie" is explainable, and every media ever recorded will have things that look questionable, but will always have some explanation.

It's easier to actually get humans on the moon than film a fictional landing and keep it a secret from billions of people.
exactly. how would you keep a secret with thousands of people being apart of the project?

I used to think that there would be too many people involved, too many moving pieces, things that could go wrong.

But the fact is with a compliant media you would never even hear about the credible debunkers. The conspirators who have a change of heart can just be charged with crimes and bundled off into the night and you would never hear about it. Livelihoods and freedoms would depend on staying silent and going along, those are powerful motivators.

Bonus
How would the USSR even convince Joe Sixpack that he was being lied to? Would Khruschev beat his shoe on another table while rattling off scientific inaccuracies? They would look petty and jealous, not sincere.
