"80% of Americans haven't visited a Museum. So this is game changing."

Epic Games, the developer behind the popular video game Fortnite, has given the green light for the creation of the first Holocaust Museum within the game. This decision was announced by game developer Luc Bernard, who tweeted, "Super proud that we will be the first to bring something like this to Fortnite's 400 million+ players. 80% of Americans haven't visited a Museum. So this is game changing."
The concept of the Holocaust Museum in Fortnite comes after Bernard's previous project, Light in the Darkness, a free game that focused on the experiences of a Jewish family persecuted by the Nazis during World War II. Bernard expressed his belief that many games tend to overlook the horrors of the Holocaust, telling Agence France-Presse earlier this year that many games portray these realities of that war as being "a bit like denying that it ever existed." Through Light in the Darkness, he aimed to portray the grim fate faced by European Jews as the Nazis systematically eradicated them, resulting in the death of about 66% of European Jews during the Holocaust.
The first Holocaust Museum in Fortnite has been approved today by Epic Games.

The addition of the museum in Fortnite is an extension of Bernard's efforts to offer educational gaming experiences about the Holocaust. At a time when awareness of this historical event remains crucial, and technology poses the risk of obscuring its significance, the initiative becomes even more meaningful. Earlier this year, Bernard expressed concern about the potential misuse of artificial intelligence to undermine the historical truth of the Holocaust to iNews, emphasizing that AI-generated content could distort existing visual evidence and challenge the authenticity of the events.
"I give it five years, even less," Bernard said. "The survivors are going to die and then everything is going to get out of control… I honestly think AI photos are the most dangerous thing for Holocaust awareness, because before, we could prove [what happened] with photos."
Fortnite's new Holocaust Museum features a diverse range of exhibits that shed light on various aspects of this dark period in history. Visitors can explore sections dedicated to specific events, such as Kristallnacht, a chilling reminder of the violent anti-Jewish pogroms that took place in Germany in 1938. Additionally, the museum delves into the lesser-known but equally significant experiences of Jews in Tunisia and Greece during the Holocaust, illuminating the hardships and resilience of these communities. Among the notable exhibits is a tribute to Abdol Hossein Sardari, an Iranian diplomat who saved numerous Jewish lives by issuing passports to Jews in occupied France.

I can't wait for the inevitable memes that force them to remove this.

Maybe they haven't been to a museum because they find them boring? What a shock.

Aside from that, aren't there virtual tours of the actual museums? I don't think a rendition in Minecraft, Fortnite, or whatever is going to get anyone interested who wasn't already.

A bad credit score just means that you don't pay back your debts. It says nothing about how much money you have.

those kids are pretty based. i think they'll be all right.

I used to be neutral about The Jews until I could not opt out of another boring Shoah lesson. Oy vey, who could hate these adorable people?

See what made me not care about the Holocaust was going to Berlin and seeing the outline of The Wall in the road. And I realised the Jews and Germans will never move on. So the history is pointless because it will always be the now.

And I do so detest people that will not, move on. Even when they can.

Calling anything involving the holocaust 'the forgotten' is laughable. The topic can never stop being pumped through every loudspeaker they can. Hitler and the holocaust have been cemented in current culture as 'The worst person and worst thing'. Shame they didn't allow emoting or put in tomato vendors so you can toss that shit at pictures like the other flubbed attempts in Fortnite.

Someone will find a way to grief this. All you need's 16 players to make a human swastika.
If emotes weren't disabled like that time there was a Martin Luther King, Jr. tribute there is plenty of opportunity for shenanigans.

The March Through Time experience launched August 26, recreating the Lincoln Memorial and US National Mall where King delivered the speech, and incorporated informational exhibits and collaborative minigames for players.

The next day, Fortnite's official Twitter account for service updates informed players that "All emotes have been disabled in the March Through Time experience," with the exception of eight that were designed specifically for the event.

The replies to that announcement give an indication as to why, with pictures and images of Superman and cartoon character Rick Sanchez using the "raise the roof," "get schwifty," and "ride the pony" dance emotes as King's speech plays on a screen in the background. Another shows a white police officer using the "whipcrack" emote toward Black avatars in the experience.

One reply shows the "D.C. 63" spray players can unlock in the experience apparently being thrown into the game's existing "Everything's Fine" dumpster fire spray.

The behavior of players likely would not have been a surprise to Epic. Last year the company streamed a Black Lives Matter panel discussion in the game, only to find players respond by using an in-game emote to throw tomatoes at the screen.

Remember when video games were about escaping the gay reality we live in? The sad part is that this isn't even the right type of game for it and most of the survivors of the Holocaust are dead, don't care because they don't play games literally marketed to kids or have rightfully moved on. The ADL is such a fucking scourge on society.
