Walter Presents is showcasing this on the Channel 4 network (Deutschland 86 is being shown on the more cerebral More4 channel) in it's full Teutonic glory.

i would love to see a series about a rejected young man during wwI serving as a message-runner until he gets wounded and has to spend the war in a hospital.

Here in the US it airs on Sundance, also subbed. I don't usually watch spy shows or historical dramas so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone handles the end of East Germany when 89 comes along.
