Destiny 2 - Place your bets on how many $40 DLC packs we'll get this time.
i forgot about devrim being a fudgepacker but that's mostly because you don't get to interact with him that much, you only did during red war and guess what happened to it...
The Destiny series is an interesting look at how game writing as a whole has gone to pot since D1s launch to D2s death. We went from trying to explore a new serious sci-fi setting with interesting mythic lore, to knockoff Marvel writing, to a Troonslop homo-hive.
The Destiny universe had such a strong foundation to work off with its lore writing and art design that I would have said it's impossible to fuck that up. Only I've watched them do exactly that for over a decade. Shit's wild.
In the end, it looks like the employees making up the dessicated husk of Bungie are going out like the rats they are. If insider leaks are to be believed, knowledge about Destiny 2's ending was extremely compartmentalized; keeping most staff out of the loop to the point they were still working on projects that weren't going to make it to release. Supposedly some people in-the-know begged management to inform everyone of what was going on to no avail. Looks like they all as self-interested as Pete Parsons.
meanwhile my steam account...
when i was checking my epic account i saw some weird chests that needed keys in the crux of stasis timeline mission that never showed up to my steam account and it made me feel tired for all of the supposed grinding i'd have, truly amazing how the fatigue was lightning fast to re-settle.
These images are enough to understand why it went to shit. A bunch of foids and fags with main character syndrome. The narrative team going from Joe and co. to foids explains why it went from grimdark "we are fucked fighting something way beyond us that we cannot comprehend", to turning characters like Osiris and Saint into sodomites and Anna Bray into queer Mary Sue. We went from characters like Toland The Shattered, a Sword Logic obsessed warlock who got himself killed by the song of Orix's daughters so he could be the first guardian to go to the throne world, to whatever the fuck that queer Nimbus is and aims to do. JFC...
Never forget what these creatures did to the things you love. They're literally a disease, the infest things and once they have their grips in they start to purposely do as much damage as they are physically allowed before anyone stops them, IF anyone ever even bothers to stop them.
Brooks may have been the lead fag at the time, made it worse and way way gayer, but he wasn't the progenitor of this fag shit. I was there when the lore was folked™. I can remember it vividly, LIKE FINGERS ON THE SURFACE OF MY MIND! >Don't recite the deep magics to me, I was there
The people responsible most were >Christine Thompson
>Hazel Monforton
And >Allison Lührs
Christine should have her own industry thread for how much of a self insert fujo she is(she's also fat). She was there from D2 pre-dev to forsaken but her writings were adapted up until witchqueen, so her influence far outweighed (heh fat) her tenure. Hazel is why everything from Lightfall to TFS sucked. And Allison wrote a lot of the seasonal stuff with uldren and the refugee shit. Like I said, I'm not a woman hater, I'm just pointing out a pattern of behavior of single fujos who rolled into a space they didn't belong and immediately started filling it with their fan fiction. I'll never forget "folk your lore", Christine should have been bagged and blacklisted during that very interview.
When D2 had first launched and several in universe established cannons were contradicted by the story, it caused an uproar. The writers and Christine Thompson got very uppity and said that the grimoire entries weren't cannon and called them folklore to be interpreted as they wished on a whim. Here's Joker's old video going over it so I don't have to do it from memory. Christ, it was 8 years ago.....

im really looking forward to whenever he comes back and makes a video on the ending situation. he's always been really spot on with analyzing whats going on at bungie.

I still remember when the foids and fags came up with this shit and basically retconned Midnight Exigent from being Rasputin's report of his actions during the Collapse (spoiler, it was Rasputin that stopped the Traveller from fleeing and abandoning humanity, just like it had done to the Fallen, by firing the weapons it controlled on the Traveller, causing the damage it had on its bottom and spawning the Ghosts), to being a mere "simulation" of what it could've done if the Traveller attempted to flee. Because of course, the Traveller would never abandon us like it did the Fallen, and fought the Darkness head on for us unlike the millions of years it spend running from it. I hate the people that took over the narrative after TTK.
Same problem as with Disney SoyWars.
If your new writers are so braindead that they cannot simply respect existing lore by at least ignoring it and instead need to apply fictional historical revisionism the franchise is doomed.
"X was never cannon, chud" is really just "we could not fit our failed draft for a gay disabled black girlpower sitcom into the same universe as that stuff so it needs to go".
Unironically less competent than the average fanfiction writer.
Although i think even without all the shit-tier story handling D2 would have an uphill battle to survive the past few years.
The game has become so weird that even returning players (that skipped a few years) get hit in the face by a steamtrain of:
-Random cutscenes that contain random characters doing random shit that you know nothing about,
-absolute HUD/Interface spaghetti with about 20 pages of random bullshit
-50 activities nestled into 10 different menus located on different screens
-Loot-Mechanics that were broken apart and then badly duct-taped back together.
All of this for 50-100$ every few months if you want to actually play the game.
So slowly bleeding out players by even temporarily loosing them to another game means probably loosing them forever, whereas any other game would easily welcome its players back with a bit of fresh content to play and no confusion.
And God forbid a new player wants to check out D2 and is immediately overrun by a game with more menu complexity but less functionality than Tarkov or an MMO.
Both of the above modes are located in different menus and on different screens btw. Its like two games had a terrible car crash and this is the mangled leftovers.
If new players need to google what the gamemodes are supposed to mean and then are still left wondering what exactly the gamemodes mean then your game is lost. Especially if the reward for that "research" is playing Destiny 2.
Whomever designed the menus should be permanently forbidden from being within 500 yards of an electronic device. Together with all managers, the MTX people, the writers and basically anyone but the guy who made the gunplay work and some environmental artists.
What's really funny about the Portal is that it was originally a concept for Destiny 1 and it was scrapped because "We had totally sucked all the fun and cool stuff that we had in that very first prototype and we had realized that we had somehow gone astray".
Yes, they removed the first 4 campaigns from Destiny 2. They have an ingame storyline screen but it offers like 1-2 sentences summarizing every DLC and season. I haven't made new characters but from what I've heard it's really bad. It starts you out doing the original Destiny 1 first mission now that the original starting campaign was removed, and after that is done you're thrown into the tower with little direction. Destiny has a simlar problem to Warframe where it's got shitty player onboarding which makes it harder to get into.
This was my experience. I got back into Destiny I think 2021 or 2022 and played the fuck out of it. I saw D2 was free and installed it and found myself in Destiny 1 again except with a more confusing map. As I kept going I realized that I was literally just playing the opening quest from D1 again which mind you I literally just did. Baffled I looked it up and found out that they removed the campaigns, absolutely baffling. Don't think I ever made it past Earth. There is always Destiny 1

It's a real shame. Destiny 1 is a complete and cohesive package, with all content present. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 is going to be left a mess, with half of the game cut out and the remainder being a confusing mess. A massive chunk of the game is missing, someone trying to play the story chronologically now going from Rise of Iron to Shadowkeep. and then missing out on 19 seasons between all the remaining DLCs. 23 Seasons have been removed. That's hundreds of dollars:
