Y'know, there's certainly a lot of blame to be thrown around as to who's responsible for this shitshow, but one name that I don't think is getting enough attention/hate is Jason Jones.
This could just be wild speculation I'm pulling out of my ass, but hear me out.
I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone here who Jason is, co-founder of Bungie and all. He's been there since the beginning, he's had his hands in basically everything Bungie's ever done, and even though he's the "lead creative" or whatever his stupid job title is and not the CEO, he obviously still plays a part in the direction of where the studio goes.
That wouldn't be a problem if not for the fact that he has a history of getting very bored with something the studio has been working on.
Basically every time Bungie starts making a hit series, usually the second game in it, he gets tired of working on it and wants to do something else. He got bored of Marathon after 2, which is probably why Infinity was built by a team of ex-Bungie devs that wanted to keep going. I'm not sure about Myth, but it wouldn't surprise me if he also got bored of it after II, so Myth III was done by another company. He started checking out of Halo either around Halo 2's development or shortly after, but because they were locked in to a five-game contract with Microsoft, Bungie had to keep at it for the next few years. That didn't stop him from having the studio quickly throw together ODST so they could get out of the contract with Reach and not several years later.
So now we get to Destiny, another project he clearly had passion for at the start (remember the ODST tease years before we knew what Destiny was?), enough passion to sign yet another decade-long deal with a major publisher. The game was successful despite the tumultuous development cycle, and it keeps doing well. Yet once again, Jason starts getting bored. Maybe it wasn't living up to his initial dreams, maybe he finds the actual process of development after the initial blue ocean phase tedious, or maybe he just wanted to move on to something else. Again, that last one wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, creative types do want to keep challenging themselves, but it's a different thing altogether when you're running a massive dev studio.
This is probably why Bungie kept spinning up countless incubation projects over the years despite nothing coming of them. It would not surprise me if Jason himself was the main impetus behind these, hoping to find something new that would interest him more than Destiny was. And at some point, he must have been one of the main voices behind the notion to revive Marathon as an extraction shooter. Again, this would not surprise me; at the time, it was a relatively new genre (like looter shooters were when Destiny came out), it wasn't a crowded field, and there was the potential to leverage all of Bungie's resources to repeat Destiny's success and cement Bungie's dominance in another genre. It was the perfect combo of things to appeal to Jason's ADHD/manic-depressive/[insert armchair psychologist diagnosis here] mind, and he probably thought that Marathon would be such a huge success that the studio could forget about Destiny altogether and he wouldn't have to deal with that old garbage anymore.
But then Marathon had a rocky development (notice a pattern?), and despite much of the studio being moved over to work on it and making Destiny suffer in the process, it barely managed to hit its delayed launch and then flopped hard. At this point, the studio was left with a choice: try to balance updating two live service games simultaneously when neither was in a good place, or scrap one to salvage the other. The logical choice would be to give up on Marathon, take the L, and focus on the only game that has had a proven track record.
But that's not the Jason choice. Jason doesn't give a shit about Destiny anymore. It's over a decade old now, it's not new and shiny, there's no joy in it for him anymore. Thus, he chose to take Destiny out back and blow its brains out so he can go back to playing with his new toy...up until it eventually starts to bore him too. Then the cycle starts all over again...
Like I said, this is wild speculation from someone spending a bit too much time thinking this evening. But if any of this is even remotely true, it would explain a lot about what doesn't make sense on the surface.
I have literally never understood how leftist feminist retards can complain about how men have a lack of positive role models in media to look up to, then simultaneously take good ones and scream at the top of their lungs about how they're totally fags because they spend a lot of time together and they're best friends and they have emotional moments. Nope, you’re completely correct, not even speculating. There’s a fantastic Bungie documentary on YouTube that pretty much centers around the idea that Jason Jones is both wholly incompetent and extremely bi-polar when it comes to his studio.
In fact, there’s a lovely little portion of an interview Marty O’Donnell did with ActMan where he flat out says that he, Joseph Staten and, drum roll please; Pete fucking Parsons, had to tard wrangle Jason into finishing out the Microsoft/halo contract. Big ol evil meanie Pete used to work for Microsoft and he was assigned to be a liaison inside Bungie for them, to keep an eye on things. At the time, when Jones wanted out from underneath Microsoft, Marty and Pete (now working directly for Bungie instead of as an assigned role) negotiated with Microsoft lawyers to adjust the contract, which ended up letting Bungie go after 2 more games (odst and Reach) and full independence in return for Halo.
Even with this extremely generous offer from Microsoft, that was already signed mind you, Jones wanted to completely ignore it, not make ODST Or Reach, and move on to Destiny around 2011. This would’ve put Bungie at odds legally with one of the biggest and richest software companies in the world. He’s a fucking idiot and has inadvertently tried and almost succeeded in killing his company several times over the past 30 years simply because he gets bored and is top dog, so his word is god around there.
Thank you for the correction on the Halo contract. I knew ODST was thrown in there to get out of it faster somehow, but it's fucking insane that even with that updated agreement, he still wanted to bail early and potentially bankrupt the studio. If anyone needs to be jettisoned out of the company for its own good, it's Jason.

I’ll give the retard credit, I forget how he did it, but he has almost complete ownership over the company, atleast before the Sony acquisition. I forget the business logistics because honestly the more I learn about Corpo culture, the more I want to Ronnie McNutt myself; BUT, because Bungie is a private company, he can’t be fired or ousted by a board of directors or anything like that. That’s the way that Steve Jobs was kicked out of Apple, however, Sony IS a public company, that has to answer to a board and shareholders. In a way, he is now in the sights of Sony leadership because of his studios incompetence. And they will Old Yeller that ass if it means keeping that stock number going up.

The Warmind was one of the coolest characters in the setting and it fucking sucks that they killed him off, although it was somewhat necessary because in Season of The Worthy he was set up to be on the brink of restoring Humanity's golden age and BTFO'ing all non-paracausal enemies. E.g. when Caital came into the solar system there would've been no need to negotiate, Rasputin could've taken them on with the weapons (they appeared to be lasers in the Season of Arrivals intro cutscene?) he attempted to use on the Pyramids when they arrived.
I liked seeing his Pyramid tracker update week by week as they got closer. Season of The Worthy was when I got into D2 after trying it out on launch and never getting into it and I look back on it very fondly. (I fucking loved the warmind cells)

Destiny 2 raids and dungeons were good time, arguably best thing in the game. Could they just move to "we print raid and dungeons every 3-4 months and that's all content"?

With how much the current lore contradicts itself that's the easy part, and there's always that Destiny: Rising alternate universe shit that they can use if they don't want to put in the effort for that. The hard thing would be to have a good gunplay since that's the only thing that kept D2 alive for this long and most of the people who built that thing left Bungie years ago or already retired.
I predict Marathon gets it's own PvE mode and grows Destiny 3 out of the extraction shooter. Marathon isn't considered a failure yet, and there is a chance they can reuse the same Halo foundation to expand into the Marathon universe and capture some Destiny 2 players.

I never really played destiny, but to me, this is a perfect example of why stop killing games is important. now when they kill the servers, hours if not days of content and gameplay will be lost, paid to win weapons, skins, and more. Lost like burning money in the wind or in other words, a dead 80gb executable

I still remember getting shit for saying Bungie wouldn't improve after going independent. The narrative at the time was "Bungie getting out from under the thumb of greedy activision would save Destiny as they wouldn't be held back". But since Activision was hands off and all the major fuck up were from inside the studio, them ditching their sole remaining tard wrangler wouldn't help.
I don't know about Forsaken, but Taken King vastly improved the game, by bringing it to a level where it should've been at launch. But the could never keep the quality on that level. If they offered that kind of quality every expansion, things would've been great.
He was even cooler in the alpha story where the traveller turned out to be evil, and the players were it's undead army.
In that version of the plot, the traveller was going to worlds, granting them gifts, sucking them dry, then moving on when the old races caught up to it. (The fallen were a previous race it had done this to. And vex were traveller repair bots.) The warminds saw this betrayal coming and when the traveller was about to leave, crippled the traveller, forcing it to stay and fight. Which is why it created the ghosts and why the 4 way clusterfuck between the cabal, the humans, the fallen, and the vex exists.
This is also why the traveller has that huge black mark under it. It's where Rasputin shoved the worlds nukes up it's arse.
