Despicable Me 3 - THOSE FUCKING MINIONS

I think The Secret Life of Pets was pretty profitable for them because there was a lot of merch for the movie after the movie and it's still around and it's still selling. Even if the movie didn't do well (I dunno if it did, I don't care enough to check) it looks like the property around the movie is doing well
Also they made a fuck ton off the Minions so gotta pump more Minion related movies out before the Minion craze dies totally.

The only thing I liked about Secret Life of Pets was that it demolished Fembusters at the box office. It's really also the only thing I can remember about the movie off the top of my head regardless.

A couple of buddies also agree with me that the obnoxious marketing Illumination tends to do with their movies may have also helped guarantee a profit. It really does give me Blue Sky vibes since that's what they did with the Ice Age and Rio movies, albeit Meledandri left before Rio was even far enough into production to get his monetary support.

I'm pretty sure it did because I remember there was nothing good out at the time. I don't recall any other kid flicks (animated and live action) out at all for it to compete with there, and there wasn't anything more adult oriented for parents to spend money on instead.

I don't know why but I've always found Illumination's animation to be obnoxious. I mean it's colorful and fluid and well-structured enough. It just rubs me the wrong way, especially on their human animations. Something about the facial structure...

I waved it off as them being stylized since cartoons tend to have really bizarre body shapes, but when I noticed the human owner from Secret Life of Pets was really twiggy for a woman in her 20s (or is at least 18), it bothered me. Again, this is probably a carry-over from Blue Sky, who does do this, but Blue Sky knows how to make character animations cartoony (Horton Hears a Who is a perfect example of this). I've yet to really see (good) use of stretchy animation in anything of Illumination's, something that I think was sorely missed in The Lorax, its badly-executed plot notwithstanding.

Christ, that's some Slender Man shit right there.

I caught the first DM movie, and it seemed okay to me. Not really my thing, but okay as kids' movies go. Unfortunately, the trend these days is to keep milking a franchise until everyone's sick of it. I remember when Shrek was seen as a subversive, funny movie, not an overplayed merchandising juggernaut.

Yes, Steve Carell is playing a set of twins, and I'm pretty sure Dru is making the Trey Parker character look less gay than was possible.

I'm interested to see how this movie plays out.

I liked the first Despicable Me, the second wasn't all that bad, however I couldn't sit through the Minions movie.

I'm wondering if anyone at Illumination's French contractor even knows how to rig stretchy characters. Because The Lorax really didn't look like they did (even for those who are supposed to be overly cartoony like the titular character).

Also, I can understand the more cartoonish designs for both the DM films and Lorax, but it really doesn't work for films like Pets. I'm kind of wondering if the only people any of the animators have seen are that of the bulimic variety. Especially with the females.

It truly is all about the bottom line, so expect a 4th one and a 2nd Minions somewhere down the line. It's not a matter of why nor how, but when and what for.

Well shit, sequels are becoming so prolific now that writers are having to turn to soap opera cliches to keep the plots coming. What's next, does Gru's little cousin Oliver come to visit? Does Gru get a sassy, obnoxious mini-me named Groopy Doo?
