While a string of continuances is a boon for Chris Chan its a double edged sword for Ralph.
On the plus side every continuance delays the inevitability of consequences. This is good for Ralph. Despite also putting him on a cycle of having to relive the stress of court and a perpetual state of facing the unkown, Ralph has drugs and booze to offset that. In the mean time he can spin it is a W when in fact it is simply not and outright L.
On the downside he's going to be bled dry by having to spend the money to either fly to California regularly for meaningless court appearances like he did this time, or he'd actually have to retain representation to appear on his behalf. Maybe he'll get lucky and be able to Zoom call it but that's not a guarantee.
Aside from the opportunity to see the son he obviously doesn't really care about, Ralph is putting up with this legal limbo for effectively no potential benefit. As has been stated before Vickers goal is simply to make Ralph's life suck, and the coin merchant is winning on that front.
Much like War Games, the only winning move for Ralph is not to play.
