Why the fuck is it called luthorcorp and not lex corp in the trailer? Also I have no hope that this movie will be good or represent superman as the capable super hero that can help and it's just gonna be him being sad that people dont like him for dumb arbitrary reasons until he needs to team up with less popular heroes to defeat the big bad guy.

It is insane how they continue to remake the same two films over and over again. You can literally do anything with Superman, you can drop him in the Wild West or mad max and it’s great because he doesn’t require the supports/settings of other superheroes, he doesn’t need a gothic city with very specific requirements or tall buildings to web to. Anything could be done with him as a character and they insist on redoing the same two movies over and over. Superman (1978) is a masterpiece, Superman II is the KOTOR II of movies, a tragically flawed masterpiece that took years to reach it’s full potential and the Donner cut is still jank, yet the TWO modern Superman films insisted on remaking them and we now have a THIRD, this one throwing them all together with C-listers.

If this is as bad as I think it’s gonna be, I might just spite-write my Superman golden age ideas, I’m that sick of this bullshit.

I always preferred Supes in a Sci-Fi setting as his best villains tend to be around his power level. Problem is the people that make Superman movies are normies at heart and not Superman fans, so they got to go back to Luthor* and Zod for these movies. Have they tried using Brainiac? I know the name is silly, but he's a computer virus that spawns robots and shit. Or Bizarro so they can do the "Did Superman turn evil?" plot without having to make Supes evil. It's all academic given how they never get Supes's character right in modern times to begin with.

It's already better than Zach Snyder imho. I like how Gunn is embracing the fantasy and sci Fi aspects of the franchise. My only concern so far is that it seems a little bloated with non-superman related characters to set up other movies. But it's too early to tell if Gunn can make it work somehow.

I personally think Snyder's take never worked not because it was dark, rather because he simply didn't like Superman that much, and he was embarrassed of playing him straight. As a hopeful hero.

I know the knee jerk reaction is to favor Snyder after Gunn made fun of conservatives with his creature comandos. But I will remind you that Snyder made very clear he is not on the side of "the chuds" either, and he distanced himself from anti-SJWs YouTubers. And he outright implied they were hateful despiste the fact they were the most vocal supporters of the Snyder cut.

Yeah the issue with Snyder's Batman and Superman is that he wanted to be an edgelord redditor in making them feel "realistic" despite making Superman a blatant Jesus allegory and Batman into a psychopath who murders common criminals while his named rogues are still alive. I don't think Gunn could really do damage to the Superman character that Snyder did back with Man of Steel where Superman cried over killing Zod more than he cared for any of the civilians that died, and coinciding with all the "Superman but bad" media like Injustice. The only way I can see Gunn topping Snyder is if Superman gets raped like the Joker in Folie a Deux

Can't really judge too much of the quality of the Gunn Superman as the movie isn't out, but the trailer does look promising, though I do agree with the concern that the side heroes could overshadow Superman, hopefully they have a better purpose for being there like to contrast Superman's brand of heroism.

As a side note, about Lex Luthor, I hate the name "Luthorcorp" because it doesn't roll off well like "LexCorp", but I think Nicholas Hoult can give a good performance, since I do like how without dialogue, you can tell he has a seething hatred for Superman.

Hopefully the movie does deliver, and isn't like Man of Steel where I also had hopes for it only to shit on it right when it came out.

I don't even think it was this as much as he made the exact movie he was hired to initially. everything WB has done with DC properties for years has been weird reactionary moves. I think the blame is still mostly on Snyder but I think a huge percentage of it is also on studio politics and heads entirely missing the point.

people didn't like Superman Returns much and so the studio went well they don't like old shit and he didn't fight anyone, but we had success with Batman so they went to Nolan and Goyer to write and hired Snyder and were like make Superman badass and he made that movie.

Sure Returns did have a lack of action and he doesn't punch anyone, but it sucked because the plot is retarded. Superman fucked off for 5 years and came back and everyone's lives have moved on, he spends his time floating around stalking his ex, Lois' kid is Superman Jr but she doesn't know Clark and Supes are the same guy. and lex luthor makes a kryptonite island to sell in a weirder dumber version of the same goofball scheme he had in the first one and the movie is overall nostalgiabait.

so the studio guys who don't know shit went well it's boring, make the next one crazy action porn with snyder. then they went fuck you went too far! hold superman accountable and shove Batman in there he sells, also build us a MCU competitor! and filtered through Zack Snyder these studio mandates turned into the movies we got because of his specific sensibilities and Justice League was the clusterfuck it was because of the dislike of BvS and scrambled course correction. a series of weird fuck ups at every level.

I'm not really sure how Gunn is "embracing the fantasy and sci-fi aspects" in the trailer unless you mean the presence of other heroes. This movie actually feels less sci-fi than Snyder's stuff going by the trailer alone.

Lexcorp works because it establishes that Luthor is an egoist without having to spell it out for the audience. Luthorcorp only worked in Smallville because there it was a family business and Lex was less of an outright asshole (Lionel was more villainous in that show than Lex was).

Snyder didn't even make Superman badass, dude gets beaten and outsmarted near constantly. It feels especially jarring in moments like the Superman vs. Zod fight where Zod nearly always has the upper hand until the end when Clark suddenly has him in a chokehold because Snyder remembered that Supes is supposed to win that fight.

I feel really bad for Routh because he had the chops to make a great Superman but got screwed over by the material. Cavill is similar in that regard. Corenswet however doesn't give the vibe that he has some untapped potential waiting to be unleashed.

It’s not campy Supes everybody likes.

It’s looking to be Grant Morrison New 52 Superman, I think Gunn is gonna have him “evolve” into campy Supes then get KC’d. Writing is on the wall, Lois is gonna bring out his better side and when she dies he’s gonna implode and revert to cynical.

The Morrison run kinda did that too, he started off as a Golden Age brawler, became the Silver Age powerful alien and then became the Bronze Age Clark-first and foremost Superman.
