Darktide

So I just started playing and difficulty 2 is easy and difficulty 3 is kicking my ass.

I feel like every time I join a put on the third difficulty we get wiped by the first major enemy pack.

Could just be bad luck, but how much does gear/talents matter if you're not super good at the game? Do I just need higher ilvl and talents? My gun feels so weak when difficulty increases.

My skitarii is level 16 with 200 level gear, my galvanic rifle does 48/80 damage and my sword slightly less, maybe thats part of it?
@Asian tech support is absolutely the man to listen to in regards to basically everything Darktide but I'll add that, in general, at lower difficulties the players also tend to be less skilled and that can make it harder no matter how well you play.

I'm a decent but not exceptional player currently levelling up my hive scum and the only time I've had a wipe is on heresy difficulty. Malice (dif2) forgives mistakes and you don't need to rely on your team, damnation (dif4) punishes mistakes and requires more teamwork but players generally have a decent knowledge of the game and gear to get by, but heresy is in a weird spot where although it's easier than damnation many players don't seem quite able to deal with the difficulty increase compared to malice. They still have a solo mindset and that can cause problems.

Point is, heresy is a weird difficulty that I also have struggled on after having not played below damnation since Arbites came out. Don't give up, stick at it. Skitarii is powerful but can be squishy too. Arbites is a great beginner class if you have it, good damage and survivability, also has the dog which can save you if you get separated from your team.

I actually don't think skitarii is that squishy. Don't get me wrong, it certainly can be but after the better part of a week stalking people's builds, I think people are sleeping on some very good defensive nodes. The class has a lot of damage reduction in its tree, in very convenient places too I might add, and can generate good amounts of toughness too, like surprising amounts. When we think of the tankiest playstyles in the game, shout vet, basically any flavor of zealot or arbites, tauntgryn, etc., they all have either some form of aoe stagger or disengage built into their respective builds which definitely increases their survivability. After all, you're not taking damage when the enemy can't hit you. Hive scum can build into a bunch of toughness damage reduction but the only way it can generate massive amounts of toughness on demand is either with rampage or by popping a stimm with the one chemical dependency node, and its only stun it has is forges bellow, which is kind of makes me consider it a necessary pick up when using rampage. Or at least that was my experience playing the class, I'm by no means a scum afficionado. Skitarii has the damage reduction and the toughness generation but only voltaic emitter is a stun, and boy what a stun it is. I get that the class has only been out for a couple of days but it's my gut feeling that once the dust settles, the bog standard havoc skitarii player will be running a voltaic emitter build.

This shitty mspaint meme is my experience returning to Darktide. I forgot how bottomless the need for this stupid shit is. Every Diamantine pick up fills my heart with hatred for the Heretics that have stolen all of the Plasteel.

The fuck do I do when there's 10+ gunners lighting me up with full auto las fire? I instantly melt. Everything else that attacks me is sensible block/dodge stuff.
After playing 500 hours in Vermintide 2 and dying to Ratling gunners more times than I can count I found a pro strat that I carried over to Darktide
you fucking die and hope there's anyone left who can pick you up

I only used the basic voltaic emitter you start off with and made a beeline toward the chordclaw. I'm gonna jump on tonight and take your words into account and see what I can come up with.

I think I've been relying on True Grit for the Arbites for too long and have been spoilt. I saw that one of the extras for the Refraction Emitter blitz is basically True Grit but only fot the duration of the blitz and that definitely soured me on it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a second look.

Picked the game up, and oh baby my old man brain and reflexes are not up to par. Even on babymode all the shit going on is putting me in a coma, can't get past the shield boss guy on the 4th(?) mission. Seems fun, but slow paced games seem to be all that is left for me.
If you think this is chaotic i cant imagine you playing with modifiers like "its darker" or "theres green fog".

Skiitari has been fun, but the times i had to remind my fellow skiitari that they can res from a distance is way too much. I swear some just forget they have their servos and can do data interrogations remotely or res remotely.

I'll be honest, for the first few days I didn't actually know how the medicae servo skull even worked:lol:. I don't know why but for whatever reason I thought I had to double tap ping for it to go. Eventually I figured out that you have to hold G and hover over until you see the green.

Also, I think if you take either the shield or the shock nade blitz it removes your little skull buddy so you can't even remote hack which is stupid.

Saw my favorite red toasterfuckers joining the team, instantly got back into it after a year or so and now anything above Heresy difficulty is spanking my biomechanical ass. Granted, it's solo so I am at the mercy of three tards but the usual duck-and-weave-and-push-and-stagger them don't seem to cut it anymore. Have they fucked around with enemy stats or have I simply forgotten to chant to my microwave in order to obtain the Omnissiah's blessing?

Apologies, my point wasn't to undersell other abilities. I reread my post and I think it might've come across as condescending. In fact, chordclaw enables some really wild damage stacking fuckery. It's not clear if it's a bug or not but transonic blades heavy attack in armor pen mode can cleave carapace. From what I can tell, no other weapon can do this.

A couple of patches ago they messed with the hp of some of the armored elites. Crushers and maulers have almost twice the health they used to.

There's also the new """non-elite""" shield niggers that conveniently tank more damage than Maulers.

Not at all, all good man. Switching to the voltaic has actually been a great help on the hardest content, I managed to clutch a mastrom mission last night using my servo skull to res my team members, and the voltaic explosion bought me the time I needed.

Funny you say that because I've been maining the transonic blades after reaching mastery with the arc maul and mechanicus power sword. At first the blades didn't click with me, I felt they were too slow but when I got the hang of switching to the armour pen mode mid-combo I really began to appreciate them. I got a mod that allows you to change the blade colour for the different modes to make it easier to tell because I'm a retard and get mixed up mid-fight haha.

I fucking hate these guys so much it isn't even funny. Seeing these fuckers spawning in groups of like 15 is worse than seeing a Mauler/Crusher was a few patches ago.

Everyone I've spoken to in-game about them has the exact same opinion as well. Surely they're bugged.

Coming back to play this game again for Skitarii. Not disappointed.

I haven't even tried that expeditions game mode yet, I'll give it a crack once I level up my robo nigga some more. Also Ryza Mechanicus have the best color scheme.

Try Vermintide 2. Same devs, same concept but slower paced compared to Darktide at least.

What threw me off at first was that they're slower than I expected but feel just fine with some attack speed. They have some crazy finesse damage and are probably up there near the dueling sword though not quite as easy to use.
Yeah, I saw that blade color changing mod too but I was already using some other mod that changes the color of the equipped weapon's icon based on which mode it's in and placed the widget near the center of the screen which sort of accomplishes the same thing. Tbh I'm kind of surprised they didn't include some visual indicator by default beyond the changing the angle of the grip. Most other mode switching weapons have a decently readable tell.

I was going to make a point about how there's something wrong with their weakpoint as it seemed like they didn't have one but there was a patch during the night and surprise surprise, their heads had a 0.5 damage multiplier (now 0.75).
Just make it so two pushes knocks down the shield like how one could do to shieldvermin in vermintide or alternatively change the shields to flak instead of carapace. I'd guess that the intention was to throw some speedbumps into the mulching of hordes but all they had to do was give them a little more health and hitmass than the armored traitor guard and not the absolute momentum halting bollard that is a carapace shield.

I don't think Expeditions really pay out well in anything, but I really freaking enjoy them. If your team isn't retarded. Most I've played with aren't, but there's always that lone wolf who thinks "Me no follow team. Me be amazingest!" and die 700 meters and 700 enemies away from the team.
