imho this whole business/non business thing is a total non issues. It's just Phil trying to explain internally to himself whether he's going to be able to pay his 15 mortgages in the near future or not. It's really unlikely to have anything to do with his 'lingering emergency'

He's been overestimating the game's popularity and impact for almost a year now: Back when it was scheduled to release a week or so after FF15, he thought it would overshadow FF15 to the point that the whole franchise would collapse.
This is speculation, but I think this is less him trying to bait for views and more him thinking "I really like South Park, so this game must be great for views!"

For those that missed it, the most important thing Phil mentioned during today's prestream and that is worthy of its own post:
He claims to make "just under half" of his money from YouTube advertising.
Some of us were speculating that it might be like 10-20-30%, but its obviously a decent whack if he's telling the truth.

IIRC he once claimed in a prestream (unfortunately don't know which, was some time ago) that his income was split about evenly between YT/Twitch. As an afterthought, he squeezed in 10% for Patreon.

Him doing this again might mean that whatever was freaking him out earlier might be not much of a threat anymore which is why he's comfortable with calling it a business.

His original south park playthrough did pretty well. I think that is the reason he expects this new one to get good attention. I am sure the game is good but I wouldn't expect any crazy amount of viewers on DSP stream.

He knows that too -- if he had an honest bone in that blubbery body he'd just admit he'll stop once the money dries up. I do see what he's doing there though, he's giving himself an out for when someone asks about it in the future.

Saying probably is the ultimate fuck you to any of his fans. Like ok, it didn't work out as a profit model, but what do you really have to lose by uploading? Especially when you don't just rely on Twitch, but also Patreon?
