(Which he did on stream once and that went as well as you'd expect)

As it has been said over and over he just need to understand what being a variety streamer really means

One of the most kino Phil-isms is when Phil asks for a game to play, someone chats or super chats him the name of some reasonably well-known game, and he replies I DUNNO WAH DAH IS and refuses to even look it up. It's like his own dented brain doesn't want his career to rebound.

But we are at 43 year old Phil who has gone down a shitty person projectory that yeah, I can see why people want to beat him up. We have circled back to early 20's Phil and we are all Jaha and Watson.

There was definitely a moment in his 20s when he thought SF and fighting game success would be his ticket to fame, as delusional as that is to imagine.

He’s never been that good at SF. Above average and good enough to have fleeting success sure but that’s nothing. Funnier when you see how little knowledge he has on the games he’s played for the majority of his life. Even funnier when people just watching him play know how to counter everything he does.

To me, this is one of the most interesting things about DSP. Fighting games are really hard, not necessarily because of the required technical skill but because you have to outplay other people that are trying to outplay you.

So Phil got 4th place at EVO. Big deal, you say. Mickey mouse tournament on a shitty PS1 port. I personally think that excuse is scrub-coded. All the participants had to compete on the same shitty port with the same problems. It makes more sense to mock him for not even placing top 3 in a boycotted tournament and is funnier IMO.

Anyway, that's all beside the point. Phil got eliminated from losers bracket by Tokido, who took 3rd place. Since then, Tokido has been a top 20 player in the world for roughly 15 years. Meanwhile Phil has been stuck in silver in SF5 and stuck below 1600MR in SF6, a game with a more forgiving ranking system.

It's like how he claimed to be valedictorian of his high school, and nobody believed him because he's evidently a fucking retard, but then it turned out to be true. If you didn't know DSP's history and he claimed to have placed top 4 at EVO, you would call him a liar, because he evidently has no clue what he's doing in any game, no desire to learn, and no ability to improve. But he actually did place top 4 at EVO. So that just raises more questions. If he used to be able to place at EVO, why is he so terrible at every fighting game he plays now? Did his brain sort of function back then before alcoholism destroyed it? Was there a gentleman's agreement not to play Vega in bracket? (He's the only player in top 8 with "Claw" listed.) Was the PS1 port actually so broken that match outcomes were RNG? WTF happened?

I think I need to get a hobby.

He was good at a few very specific games, but not good-good, not even autistic-good, he was good in the sense that he was obsessed with those games and developed muscle reflexes for them, rather than having insane instincts or an deep understanding of the mechanics that could be transferred to other games.

However, unlike the real pros Phil has a handicap in that he's both retarded and has shit hand-eye coordination. Retarded in the very real sense that he shares with Somalians not only the bulbous head but also the IQ, and there's no one who looks more uncomfortable and awkward doing any everyday physical movement than Phil outside of people who suffer of cerebral palsy.

Superficial muscle reflexes don't really translate to any other games, including games in the same series, that's why he was left behind as soon as the FGC moved on to newer games. I've no doubt that Wings could beat Phil at Phil's favorite fighting game if Wings decided to train at it for a few weeks.

It’s also been theorized by alotofpeepol that his only true skill was regurgitating information. Pre-gin brain Phil on whatever weird meds he was on to not go Columbine was able to just repeat shit back, which is great for HS. Also good enough to make you above average at games where you can learn broken meta and repeat it (and that’s so broken that few can counter it). If you look at his MVC2 & CVS2 teams, they’re all meta or top tier in some way. All that tells me is you’re good at learning the OP shit.

(Btw his Magneto was the worst I’ve ever seen. Nearly was dead in 10 seconds every game.)

He’s the classic peaked in HS, which is funny because he was an incel loser there. College skill checked him like a Dark Souls boss and while he could do enough in a fighting game to beat most (repeating the meta that is hard to stop), that even had a wall.

Everything after say 2008-2009 is pure luck with a catch. Starting YT early but being too dumb to use that to do something else. Buying condos early but in a dented way (CT condo was before prices tanked, WA condo was a middle unit). Dating a younger fan who matured more than him and left his ass. Dating a desperate girl who became a whale and isn’t even a good mom wife. Bankruptcy during COVID but didn’t use that to actually change his habits.

Looking at everything as a whole, it truly is amazing how many opportunities he’s had to not be who he is and always takes the wrong path.

Phil was actually good at SF2 turbo(even the real version not the terrible port). He's beaten people like Justin Wong, David Sirlin and Seth Killian, who were all very good players. However you need to add the following context:

The FGC was miniscule compared to what it is now and a lot less accessible. If you didn't have a local Arcade or know someone with a board then you couldn't practice at all.

SFII Turbo was released in 1994. Phil's famous EVO placement was in 2005. That would be the equivalent of still playing Street Fighter 5 today. Other big names like Justin Wong and Daigo had moved on to playing multiple other games like Street Fighter 3 or Marvel vs Capcom 2, games Phil also played a lot of but never achieved anything in because he wasn't good enough and there was a lot of competition.

Phil essentially also (self-admittedly) dedicated his entire life to SF2 and went into debt by using credit cards to fly over the country to play tournaments, at a time where there was no actual money to be made in pro gaming.

Phil found a very small amount of success as a SFII player because he was one of the only people retarded enough to dedicate his life to it, ten years after it came out after everyone else had moved on to newer games and there was only a very small pool of competition to begin with.

In a way, it mirrors how he found success on Youtube to begin with. He was one of the only people retarded enough to dedicate his life to pointing a camera at his TV screen while he played through games incredibly badly and uploaded 100 videos a day of him doing it.

Thanks for the in-depth answer. I didn't realize he beat JWong in the actual game, that's impressive. I also didn't know that SF2 was 11 years old in that tournament, I thought it was relatively new because of the port.

In a way, this actually leaves me with more questions, because DSP doesn't strike me as the kind of person that would be capable of improving at any task regardless of how much time he put into it.

I'll add this to the whole memory retention thing for Piggy: there's a point in the meta where the players are at a level where all the mechanics have been dissected and learned and all one needs to do is be quicker on the draw with half a dozen or so cookie cutter combos or responses than their opponent. I'll use my old World of Tanks days as an example, you had dozens if not hundreds of tanks to choose from for the tiers in clan and ranked battles but there's a reason why you'd see a team all with the exact same tanks with the exact same crew skills because it worked in battles with teams that communicated.

Something simple that plants the idea that 'Kat is a detractor' in his mind is all it's going to take for him to start abusing her if he doesn't already.

The way he treated her on their co-streams already rises to the level of abuse for me. Condescends and subtly insults her basically the whole time. I don't think he'd smack her around but he definitely emotionally abuses her and that's probably partly why they don't co-stream.

I'm an outlier around here though, I don't really care about Kat or insulting her, and I'm generally sympathetic to her (and Jasper). She's fat and married to the roach. She's got enough problems.

Furthermore I think his passive abuse of anybody in his vicinity is why he is incapable of having friends. He has this psychotic need to place himself above other people. Having no long term friends is a huge abuser flag and DSP has zero. He should have like at least 2 or 3 that he has 20+ year friendships with, at his age.

Phil is the lowest basest scum you can be without doing something actively evil. Scientifically designated the world's most unlikeable person.

I wouldn't think so. His name is 'Squiggy'. Now, if it's a reference to a stuttering bomb bad joke he tells on stage about using his underwear band as a squeegee, than I'm all for it.

I've had this suspicion for a while as well. Phil is by nature a highly manipulative narcissist and purposely surrounds himself with dents he knows he can control. While I doubt he could pull off love-bombing or other more socially adept manipulation techniques, he likely leverages Kat's isolation as well as the same pressure tactics he uses in the business meeting streams to keep her in the snort fort.

Whether it's fully intentional or not, he's done a really good job of making sure she won't leave him by keeping her perpetually fat, depressed, and financially dependent on him which are all the hallmarks of some kind of psychological abuse.
