Phil's marathons will always ultimately fail because they are backwards. Instead of rewarding the audience for hitting the goal and giving him $1000's he wants the audience to reward him for giving him $1000's by giving him even more money.

There is just no one like him.

Part of why they don't do as well is because he does these "special event marathons" way too often for them to actually be special. He also doesn't actually do anything different for them. He makes a big deal about playing a different game than usual for an hour before wagequitting, or people getting the incredible honor of watching him eat like a retarded 3-year-old, but otherwise it's just like every other stream. It does squeeze a little extra money out of a dent or two, but overall there is very little difference between these "marathons" than his normal streams besides the extra effort he puts in to hype them up.

At first I wanted to say that he could get easily handheld in P:T because it's extremely gameplay-light, but then I remembered that just this month he got fucking filtered by glorified visual novel Disco Elysium and wagequit it (though to be fair there was also an element of a RQ because iirc he game over'd for the first time on that stream and then had to replay an entire hour because he forgot to save).
