I think the contention with it is that Phil shouldn't feel good taking the money from people like him and JaxxRaxxor, and Jayde's mom. It was suggested that he always gives his free monthly gifted to Jayde (which he could do invisibly offstream) but he does not except rarely during a marathon to blend in. Realistically, Jayde should also be able to name a pokemon free always (and 4 now since the price is lower) but DSP is really farming that $$$ right now looking to not slide down earnings.

Nah, I think Phil was definitely "passionate" or at least enjoyed making videos early on. There was a period where he genuinely seemed to enjoy games and cracking his shitty jokes over them, probably best seen with Mass Effect where he'd played the game 4 times offline and then decided he'd record it for Youtube.
