Jesus Christ Phil I beat this game when I was a preteen just powerleveling my starter and using cut on everything. It's like the easiest game series around. Taking six hours to even get to Misty and then having your team built up so bad you have to go back to grind is pathetic. Going back to grind up Pokémon that are actually gonna be useless according to babies first rock paper scissors RPG mechanic is deserving of some Nobel Prize for Retardation.

Idk how many pokemon games he's played but he doesn't know the basic types even, much less their matchups.

FRLG are on the lower end of difficulty for the series and this mongoloid is acting like it's the Dark Souls of Pokemon games.
 
This playthrough is worse then I thought it would be I assumed chat would guide him to at least beat Misty today, He took the whole fucking stream going through Mt Moon. His pokemon are all underleveled as fuck. Next Stream he will continue onto Bill and then still be underleveled. If you think Phil can't under perform anymore then he already has you'd be fucking shocked.

What really stands out to me is that his commentary style of "dentedly describe what is happening on screen" is such a terrible fit for this game. It doesn't have voice acting or cutscenes, so he can't pretend like he's recording a retarded episode of Rifftrax like he did with RE9. It doesn't have a ton of dialogue since that would be awkward to fit onscreen on the GBA, so he can't do his "recording a shitty audiobook" gimmick either. It's turn based and has relatively simple mechanics, so he can't complain about the controls.

Any baseline competent streamer would fill the "dead air" with anecdotes about their past with the game, talk about the history of the franchise, make "video game logic" jokes about the stuff happening in the game, idk. Really low-hanging-fruit style type stuff. But it's DarkSydePhil, the most honest streamer on the internet, so he just reads out move names, and sometimes he implies that the 16 bit chibi character onscreen is a sexual deviant.

Remember when he complained about how Megabonk was too stressful of a game to play and read chat at the same time, and that was one of the excuses he came up with to wagequit it? He can't play Megabonk and read chat? Megabonk, a borderline idle game? His commentary during Pokemon Fire Red is reading the move names and the weights of the pokemon he catches? Like, how fucking stupid is this guy? Holy shit. Can he tie his own shoes?

One of the things they teach you in business is to never, ever discount your flagship product. It cheapens the brand. BK sealed its fate with whopper wednesday, Maccas stayed the line keeping the bigmac at premium pricing.

The absolute limit of his ability to entertain is going "noooooooo" or "ahhhhhhhh" for as long as possible, whilst leaning to the side so his stroke mouth isn't obvious. Oh, and sometimes he makes scat or fart jokes. FUN!

True... Which makes you wonder, is there a difference between the Pokemon streams and CD? Maybe there's some other factor that contributed to his inability to spend any more time on the boss in CD... I mean I know people like Pokemon but I think the combat in CD is a lot more entertaining, especially for a streamer. I know this is a long shot but do you think maybe it was the lack of support all along...?
